Hi, I'm Rose. The mother of Reuben's son and good friend of Reu's.
I'm fundraising on behalf of Reuben Holford to help with their cancer treatment.
Reu has cancer of the neck and throat.
Doctors have removed both his lymph nodes in his neck, a squamous cell carcinoma from his throat and soft palate, and all his teeth. He will heal from this for a few weeks, then have chemotherapy and radiation to this neck simultaneously.
It's a lot.
Reu is an amazing visual and graffiti artist, and hip hop artist, and has spent decades mentoring others and doing art for free. Whether it's an amazing mural on a Hobart wall, a paint jam at the West Hobart bowl, painted rocks he leaves for others, or many many birthday gifts, paintings and more, Reu has given us so much. He has organised gigs with his own money, promoted good causes through his art, and painted amazing murals to commemorate people who have passed away.
He has produced comics, made music videos, designed and printed his own card game, with a video clip recorded at MONA. His artwork can be seen all over Hobart.
He never stops creating.
It's our turn to give back.
Reu can no longer do any professional mural work - his major source of income.
Please consider donating anything you can, or share if you can't.
We would greatly appreciate it, and your support will give Reu the impetus he needs to fight hard.
Go Topski!!!!
With permission from Reu, funds will be transferred to my bank account and then managed by Reu's uncle, so that Reu can remain stress free and receive what he needs when he needs it.
This includes:
- Covering out-of-pocket medical costs, medication, nutritional needs, speech therapy, looking after his mental health, and complementary/alternative care that helps aid recovery.
- New dentures!! Reu has no teeth and needs to be able to chew :)
- Ensuring rent and bills are paid so he can focus on healing instead of financial stress.
- Reu needs to purchase a recliner chair, fix his bedding, make his small house easier to navigate for long term recovery, fix up the garden, purchase a water filter and air purifier, and ensure a peaceful, stress free environment.
- Once an artist, always an artist! Reu will be able to afford art supplies and digital subscriptions, to keep himself busy and continue using art as his therapy.
- Reu doesn't have a car and his electric scooter was his transport, which is no longer viable. He can now cover taxi or Uber rides to hospital appointments and back so he doesn't have to rely on others. He will be visiting the hospital 5 days a week.
- There is lots to learn on this journey. Reu can now afford to buy books, read articles and listen to podcasts. He can also get new glasses!
- Reu will be able to have quality time with his son Eli and partner Alice, to make memories and keep morale high during a tough recovery.
Thanks again!!
