Returning to South Sudan

Friends, I have some exciting news to share! I'm going back to South Sudan in May.
Since I left South Sudan in early 2019, I have been praying, hoping and literally dreaming about going back. I've supported Rebuild South Sudan's work through virtual video medical consultations and fundraising, but there's a limit to the help I can offer from a distance.
Over the past few days, a series of miracles unfolded and I learned that Rebuild South Sudan is ready for me to come, and my U.S.-based health care job is granting me an unpaid leave of absence so I can go to South Sudan for six weeks and return to my current job when I get back.
Here's what I'll be doing:
Through a partnership with Rebuild South Sudan and the San Francisco-based Church of the Sojourners, we're purchasing a water ambulance that can transport patients to the nearest hospital in one hour instead of a day-long journey that involves a rowboat ride and a 12-mile walk.
While I'm in South Sudan, I'm going to help launch the water ambulance program and lead workshops to train South Sudanese volunteers on how to triage patients, how to practice basic medicine and First Aid, and how to keep patients as stable as possible during transport to the hospital.
The current company that operates a water ambulance service charges $500 USD per trip, which is more than most South Sudanese households make in a year. For $12,000 USD we can purchase our own water ambulance and hire South Sudanese staff to pilot and maintain the boat.
In addition to that, $10,000 raises funds for my travel expenses as well as supplies and medications to treat conditions like tuberculosis, malaria, typhoid, childbirth complications and dysentery.
