MUR IN MOTION: From Wheelchair to Exoskeleton in New York 2!

Thanks to your massive support of my first campaign in May, I was able to travel to New York and walk for the first time in an exoskeleton, a surreal and life-changing moment I never thought possible. Like going to outer space!

I’ve been invited back this time as a special guest artist for Artistry In Motion, an event presented by Give Beauty Wings and Wandercraft, celebrating Deaf and Disabled artistry. I’ll be part of a panel with three other artists, followed by a live painting performance within the exoskeleton itself, a true fusion of art and motion.

This marks a significant milestone in my career: after thirty years since graduating from art school, I have received my first official invitation to New York City as an artist. The journey means more than personal achievement; it’s a statement of representation, inclusion, and creative resilience.

Over years of chasing dreams and adventure, the wear and tear on my body has been real. I’ve finally damaged my shoulder and torn rotator cuff muscles, but the spirit remains unbroken. I now require an assistant to accompany me on travel, and why am campaigning for financial support. This is not the end of the road. I'm just getting going! Next year, I may even be travelling in an exoskeleton pushing mobility, art, and possibility further, way further.

Your support will enable me to attend this milestone event, represent adaptive artistry on the international stage, and continue advocating for the independence and visibility of artists with disabilities while combating ableism.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Every contribution directly supports my ability to attend as an invited artist, represent adaptive creativity, and continue advocating for independence through art. Travelling as an adaptive artist comes with added logistics and higher costs:

1. -Travel and Accommodation – $7,900
  • Flights: $2,000 (round-trip for myself and assistant, including baggage and adaptive gear)
  • Hotel: Two accessible rooms for six nights at $450 per night = $5,400 (update Nov 5, hotel increased to $500 per night, Holiday Inn Express Chelsea)
  • Airport hotel (before and after flights, as ferries do not line up with flights and require an overnight stay): Two rooms × 1 night each = $100 total
  • Ferries: $200 (round-trip from Salt Spring Island)
  • Parking: $250 (accessible long-term airport parking)

2. Food and Daily Needs – $1,200

$200 per day × 6 days to cover meals for myself and my assistant during the event, including consideration for dietary and accessibility needs.

3. Local Transport – $600

Accessible taxis and transport in New York ($100 per day × 6 days).

4. Adaptive Art Supplies and Equipment Shipping – $1,000

Shipping paints, brushes, and panels for live painting in the exoskeleton, ensuring materials arrive safely and ready for the performance.

5. Assistant Wages – $2,500

This is what truly makes this trip possible. Because of ongoing shoulder injuries and a torn rotator cuff, I can no longer travel independently. My assistant is essential not as medical support, but as physical and logistical backup. They assist with lifting, wheelchair transfers, arranging travel, and preparing for live painting. Their presence is the bridge between limitation and independence.

Total Goal: $13,200 CAD

This campaign isn’t about luxury, it’s about access. Every dollar helps put inclusion, representation, and art in motion. With your support, I can return to New York as a working artist, celebrate 30 years of creative persistence, and take the next step toward my vision, one brushstroke, one exoskeleton step at a time.

Thank You

To everyone who believed in me the first time, you helped me stand up and walk after three decades in a wheelchair. That moment changed everything. Now, I have the chance to return to New York not just as a guest, but as an artist painting live in an exoskeleton, alongside other Deaf and Disabled creators, showing the world what inclusion truly looks like in motion.

If my story resonates with you, please consider contributing, sharing the campaign, or simply spreading the word. Every act of support, large or small, helps keep this journey alive. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for walking beside me once again. Hold on to hope that I can walk with you soon!
