Asking for help is never easy and frankly, I'm not very good at it but there are times when vulnerability is the better part of valor, especially when it serves the needs of someone you deeply love. Please allow me to introduce you to my life partner, Marcie. Anyone who knows her is immediately impressed with her zest for life, giving spirit and contagious sense of humor, in fact, she has spent her entire life's work helping others. They would also know that she is loathed to ask for help herself even in the most obvious circumstance. Neither of us have immediate family to call on but have considered ourselves very blessed to be self-sufficient and to have each other. Occasionally however, there are circumstances that life presents that exhaust one's own resources and require reaching out. A brief backstory is that in early 2023 Marcie was hit hard and weirdly by Covid (after avoiding it for almost 3 years) and was hospitalized with delirium for several days. The weird part is that the virus attacked her nervous system, leaving her with memory, hearing and mobility issues. After months of testing which ruled out neurodegenerative illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's and Guillaume Barre to name a few, she was prescribed Physical Therapy which was basically all that traditional medicine could offer and all her health insurance would pay for. She experienced some help, but it was far from a silver bullet and so we continued our search to find aggressive alternate therapies that could offer a comprehensive approach to bring her back to her pre-covid state of health. We feel so hopeful by what we have found and after just a few introductory treatments, she is already making progress. We are calculating a 6 mos. rehab process and are so very fortunate that there are very competent functional medicine providers in our area to help her return to full health. Unfortunately, her health insurance does not cover these therapies and we simply do not have the money needed to pay for this very essential 6 month rehabilitation program. The therapies include hyperbaric oxygen treatments, IV therapy, neuro-feedback, strength training and neuromuscular reflexology and massage.
