Return Candice Bredeson to the tree of life

Donation protected
My mother Candice Bredeson was surely a special human being, we all know Candice for different reasons but the common denominator in all of her interactions was her kindness and caring attitude. Our goal this week is to do our best to repay some of that kindness she bestowed upon all of us by returning her to the earth she cared for so much in a way that she would truly love. My mother always told me and my family that when she passed, all she wanted to do was be buried in her natural state in the woods somewhere where she could return to mother nature as quickly as possible. I’m sure all of you know how much the natural world meant to her and this final wish of hers pays testament to the wonderful woman that she was in all of our lives. It has truly been an honor to be able to work towards fulfilling this final wish for my mother and I am beyond happy to report that we have found a way to give her exactly what she wanted.

Our family found Herland Forest in Wahkiacus, Washington that is going to finally return her to the tree of life. Herland Forest began almost 40 years ago as an attempt to bring the utopian society outlined in Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s 1915 novel Herland. The society in Herland created their world to live in perfect balance with the forest free of war and damage to the planet. I won’t go into much detail about the book but many aspects from the society in the book are identical to my moms vision for our world and our species that we have yet to realize. They have done a wonderful job at Herland Forest beginning to bring this vision to fruition.

My mother will meet her final resting place in this wonderful ecosystem in the exact way she wanted with even more. She will get her own little corner of the forest where flowers will be planted on top of her burial site, then in the spring our family gets to decide which tree we would like to be planted at her site. My mother loved the idea of the tree of life and even went so far as to begin to get a tree of life tattooed on her. Sadly she was never able to finish this tattoo so we are so grateful to be able to pay tribute to her by literally giving her a tree of life that will grow from the body she has returned to the planet. In the future when those who loved her so dearly would like to visit Candice, instead of a trek through a traditional cemetery to leave flowers next to her tombstone, we will get to take a walk through a beautiful forest she helped create to visit her tree of life.

I want to say thank you to each and every one of you for being in my mothers life. While her later life was full of pain from her chronic health issues the two things that kept her going were: all the wonderful people that had graced her life and her love of the natural world. Even though this is certainly the saddest occasion of my short life it is also an incredible opportunity to bring all her favorite things together in her memory. If anybody is interested in helping Candice realize this final wish, we have set a fundraising goal of $4345 that will cover the services detailed below. The passing of our mother was unexpected and my mother did not wish to be embalmed (to return to the planet in her natural state quickly) so we must realize this plan by Sunday the 28th. Any help is so greatly appreciated.

$4,345 will go towards covering:

Rights of internment: $2,500

Sincerely thank you,
