Dokumentarfilm TRAFICO: el movimiente es constante (Mexico, 2023)
Dies ist ein Film über Wale und Fahrräder. Zwei Bilder die erstmal nicht zusammenpassen. Genauso wenig wie Avocados in deutschen Supermärkten, 3 Liter Coca-Cola Flaschen in kleinen mexikanischen Fischerdörfern - Oder wie ein türkischer Regisseur und ein deutscher Drehbuchautor, stets hungrig und mittellos, auf einem kleinen Campingplatz am Strand von Mermejita zusammentreffen und beschließen, einen Dokumentarfilm über die Buckelwale an der mexikanischen Pazifikküste auf Spanisch zu drehen.
Ein Independent-Dokumentarfilm für den Schutz der Wale und die Geschichte dazu
Ich war nun also in Mexico. Am Meer. Endlich am Meer und zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben ganz allein verreist. Doch allein blieb ich nicht lange, denn ich lernte Mert Şen kennen, der genauso fehl oder richtig am Platz war hier an diesem kaputten und wunderschönen Campingplatz versteckt am Strand von Mermejita, wo nur die übernachteten, die keine Angst vor braunen Witwen, giftigen Schlangen, Skorpionen, hohen Wellen oder Erdbeben hatten. Hier lernten wir uns kennen, Mert und ich.
Kurz darauf lerne ich Ivan Miranda kennen. Er ist Hydrobiologe aus Iztapalapa, Mexico-City und hat sein Leben der Beobachtung und dem Monitoring der Wale an der mexikanischen Pazifikküste gewidmet. Er und sein Freund Markos Munoz betreiben in Mazunte einen kleinen alternativen Laden in den „Sentido Contrario“ („dt: entgegengesetzte Richtung“).
Der Laden hält sich über Wasser, das heißt bezahlt seine Miete, mit dem Verkauf von veganem Essen, lokal hergestelltem Kombucha, Cocao, Hydromiel (Honigbier) und Second Hand Klamotten. Er ist ein Community Store und jeder ist eingeladen zu partizipieren im Sinne der Community. Es gibt keine Anmeldung, keine Registrierung, keinen Profit. Herkunft, Alter, Hautfarbe, Geschlecht, Sexualität, Religion sind egal. Jeder der etwas beitragen will, kann das tun.
Gleichzeitig ist „Sentido Contrario“ auch die Basis für die biologische Forschung an den Buckelwalen und anderen Meeressäugern, die hier an der Küste vorbeiziehen. Als ich das erste Mal vorbeikomme, arbeitet Ivan gerade an seinem Bericht für das Monitoring der Buckelwale, die man hier, von Punta Cometa aus, in dieser Saison teilweise mit dem bloßen Auge beobachten kann. Er erzählt mir von seinem Projekt, seinen Forschungsmethoden und alles, was ich (mit meinem damals noch schlechten Spanisch) verstehe nehme ich auf den ich bin ebenfalls Biologe und wir verstehen uns sehr gut, trotz der Sprachbarriere. Ich finde heraus, dass es hier keine staatliche Organisation gibt, die sich um das Monitoring bzw. den Schutz der Wale hier kümmert. Das Einzige, was Ivan und die anderen jemals an Unterstützung bzw. Förderung bekommen haben, waren 3 Ferngläser und ein Laptop (den wir uns später, auch für die Produktion des Films, zu fünft teilen werden). Jede weitere Ausrüstung und jeder Arbeitsaufwand, wird aus eigener Tasche bezahlt – was egal ist, wenn man passioniert ist für eine Sache.
Ich bin begeistert und frage Ivan wie ich mitmachen kann. Er sieht meine Kamera und meint, dass sie immer Leute brauchen, die fotografieren können. Ich schlage ihm etwas Besseres vor. Wir drehen einen Film. Ungläubig drückt er mir zum Abschied noch das Fanzine von Eli, seiner guten Freundin und Künstlerin in die Hand. Das Fanzine ist ein kleiner Comic, handgezeichnet und fotokopiert, eine Anleitung zum verantwortungsvollen Whalewatching indem auf kollegiale, spielerische und liebevolle Weise erklärt wird, warum das Wohl der Wale unser aller Wohl ist. Und auch um Eli und ihre Kunst wird es in unserem Film gehen. Es dauert lange bis ich Mert überzeuge diesen Film über Wale mit mir zu drehen. Er hatte zu der Zeit als ich ihn kennenlernte andere Sorgen als den Schutz der Buckelwale an der Küste vor Oaxaca. Aber letztendlich haben wir uns entschlossen diesen Film zu drehen und er ist gut geworden.
Mert, unser Team und ich haben in diesem Independent-Dokumentarfilm die Arbeit und den Alltag dieser wundervollen Menschen dokumentiert. Wie hier Künstler, Meeresbiologen, Politologen, Musiker, Arbeitslose, Obdachlose, Geflüchtete und echte Piraten auf so rührende Weisen zusammenarbeiten, ihrem Leben einen Sinn geben, mehr sind, indem sie das Leben im Meer schützen.
Wie hilft deine Spende den Walen an der Küste von Oaxaca?
Erst einmal gar nicht, da Geld unter Wasser keinen Nutzen hat und man sich eine bessere Welt, in der jedes Leben auf der Erde respektiert wird, nicht einfach kaufen kann.
Nun zumindest hilft die Spende den Walen nicht direkt, aber irgendwie dann auch schon.
In erster Linie helft ihr mit einer Spende uns: Die Produktion dieses Independent-Films wurde von unserem kleinen Team komplett selbstfinanziert, wir haben keinerlei Sponsoren oder Sender, die uns finanziell unterstützt haben. Von Anfahrtswegen, über Zeltplatzkosten, Hostelkosten, der Suche nach einem funktionierenden Laptopkabel für ein geliehenes MacBook Pro im Dschungel von Ventenilla, Benzinkosten, Busfahrten, Essen, Trinkwasser, Moskitonetzen, Skorpion-Gegengifte, Krankenhauskosten… jede noch so kleine Ausgabe, haben wir aus eigener Tasche gezahlt – und dabei ist in 3 Monaten Produktionszeit ganz schön was zusammengekommen. Auch wenn uns so viele Freunde ohne zu zögern und ohne je etwas dafür zurückzuverlangen geholfen haben, sei es beim Übersetzen zwischen Spanisch, Englisch, Türkisch, Deutsch, Französisch (Danke Marianne!), kostenlosen Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten (Danke Grillo!), einem MacBook zum Editen (Danke Omar!), professionellen Drohnenaufnahmen (Danke Robin!), Motorrad leihen (Danke Martini!) oder Remote Motion Graphics (Danke Robin2!), und vielen mehr- auch allen diesen Leuten würden wir uns gerne erkenntlich zeigen und uns finanziell oder in irgendeiner anderen Form revanchieren.
Diesen Film zu produzieren war Mert und mir eine Herzensangelegenheit, das Geld was wir dabei liegengelassen haben, war uns bis hierher egal -aber jetzt brauchen wir dringend eure Hilfe. (Nicht zuletzt dafür, dass sich unser Regisseur endlich bald mal sein Rückflugticket nach Istanbul buchen kann). Unser Team ist pleite und broke, und wir würden so gerne unsere kreative zusammenarbeit irgendwann fortsetzen. Der erste Teil der Spenden geht also an uns Menschen (und Walfreunde) um unsere Kosten zu decken, und nicht direkt an die Wale.
Trotzdem helft ihr mit eurer Spende auch, den Lebensraum der Wale zu schützen, und zwar nicht nur an der Küste von Oaxaca, sondern überall dort wo Whalewatching betrieben wird. In dem Film zeigen wir wie es möglich ist, Whalewatching verantwortungsvoll zu betreiben, er bietet auf cineastische Weise eine Anleitung für Tourguides, aber auch für Touristen weltweit, wie man sich den Meeressäugern gegenüber verantwortlich verhält und wie man sie auf die richtige Weise in voller Pracht beobachten kann, ohne sie in ihrem Habitat zu belästigen. „Wenn alle mit Verantwortung handeln, werden die Wale weiterhin hier an der Küste vorbeiziehen, wenn wir andererseits die Tiere zu sehr belästigen, werden die Kinder von morgen sie vielleicht nicht mehr sehen können“ (Zitat aus TRAFICO: Ambrosio, Tourguide). Der Film hat die klare Botschaft jedes Leben auf der Erde zu respektieren. Um diese Botschaft so weit wie möglich zu verbreiten wollen wir dem Film in der Post-Production den finalen Schliff geben und ihn anschließend bei Filmfestivals in Lateinamerika und Europa einreichen um ihn auch auf größeren Bühnen einem großen Publikum zeigen zu können. Auch um das zu verwirklichen sind wir auf Spenden angewiesen.
Der andere Teil der Spenden wird dem Verein Ciencia en Cometa bzw. SICEA zugutekommen. Diese sehr junge NGO aus lokal ansässigen jungen mexikanischen Biolog*innen und Freiwilligen, die der Biologie affin sind, betreibt seit zwei Jahren Aufklärungsarbeit für Touristen, Reisende und Tourguides in der Region um Mazunte. Hier werden interessierte Bürger und Touristen, ganz im Sinne der Community Science, aktiv ins Monitoring der Wale mit einbezogen und Wege gezeigt, wie man das Leben im Meer schützen kann. Beim Monitoring werden die Wale beobachtet und fotografiert, ihre Spezies bestimmt, in welchen Formationen und welchen Gruppen sie vorbeiziehen, wohin sie migrieren und warum. Alle diese Daten sind wichtig, um das Leben der Meeresbewohner schützen zu können, um zu wissen wo weltweit Schutzzonen gegen industrielle Fischerei und Ölbohrunternehmen vor den Küsten eingerichtet werden müssen. Auch Ciencia en Cometa verwaltet sich komplett selbst und alle Ausgaben, die getätigt werden sind selbstfinanziert. Mit einer Spende helft ihr dem diesen wundervollen Team aus Naturschützern neues Ausrüstungsgerät zu beschaffen wie Kameras, Ferngläser, Laptops zur Datenauswertung oder vielleicht eines Tages auch ein eigenes Forschungsboot. Viele Mitglieder im Verein verrichten neben ihrer freiwilligen Tätigkeit dem Schutz der Wale gewidmet, harte Lohnarbeit um sich das teure Leben an der gentrifizierten Küste irgendwie leisten zu können. Mit einer Spende würdet ihr den Leuten helfen sich jetzt in der Hauptsaison voll auf ihre Arbeit im Bereich Umweltschutz zu fokussieren. Sie sind es die dem Leben im Meer eine Stimme geben, denen, die von tief unten kommen.
Der Film wurde bisher schon auf kleineren und größeren Leinwänden in Mexico City, Puebla, Xochimilco, Mazunte, Zipolite, Acapulco und vielen anderen Orten in ganz Mexico aufgeführt. Dabei haben wir Spenden gesammelt in dem wir Fanzines und T-Shirts verkauft haben. Dadurch haben wir viele weitere Abenteuer erlebt und tolles Feedback bekommen, mit dem Geld was dabei rumkam konnten wir jedoch kaum unsere Anreisekosten refinanzieren. Unser Ziel wäre es den Film auch auf größeren Bühnen auf der ganzen Welt zu zeigen, da es in unseren Augen wichtig ist ihn zu weiter zu verbreiten, da er auf so wundervolle Weise aufzeigt, wie Menschen die unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten, zusammenhalten, um das Leben im Meer zu schützen. Deshalb starten wir jetzt dieses Crowdfunding. Die offizielle Version des fertigen Films werden wir im Frühjahr 2024 online auf Vimeo oder Youtube rausbringen, sobald wir unsere Produktionskosten decken konnten.
Alles, was dann von dem Geld übrig bleiben wird, nachdem wir unsere Produktionskosten gedeckt haben, und unsere Freunde von Ciencia in Cometa für ihre zukünftigen Projekte unterstützen konnten, stecken wir direkt in die Produktion von TRAFICO 2! Mit dessen Dreh wollen wir so schnell wie möglich anfangen und er handelt dann vielleicht von Krokodilen und Skateboards, oder Meeresschildkröten und Zügen.
An alle die etwas spenden: jede noch so kleine Spende hilft! Ob der Film am Ende hilft die Wale vor der Küste zu schützen - das wissen wir jetzt noch nicht. Aber auch wenn dieser Film für manche nicht mehr ist als gute Unterhaltung – er kommt von Herzen und wir würden gerne damit weitermachen.

This is a movie about whales and bicycles. Two images that don't go together at first. Just as little as avocados in German supermarkets, 3 liter Coca-Cola bottles in small Mexican fishing villages - Or how a Turkish director and a German screenwriter, always hungry and broke, meet at a small campsite on the beach of Mermejita and decide to make a documentary about humpback whales on the Mexican Pacific coast in Spanish.
So now I was in Mexico. By the sea. Finally, by the sea and traveling alone for the first time in my life. But I didn't stay alone for long, because I got to know Mert, who was just as out of place here at this broken and beautiful campsite hidden on the beach of Mermejita, where only those who weren't afraid of brown widows, poisonous snakes, scorpions, high waves or earthquakes stayed overnight. This is where we met, Mert Sen and I.
Shortly afterwards, I meet Ivan Miranda. He is a hydrobiologist from Iztapalapa, Mexico City, and has dedicated his life to observing and monitoring whales on the Mexican Pacific coast. He and his friend Markos Munoz run a small alternative store in Mazunte called "Sentido Contrario" ("opposite direction").
The store keeps its head above water, i.e. pays its rent, by selling vegan food, locally produced kombucha, cocao, Hydromiel (honey beer) and second-hand clothes. It is a community store and everyone is invited to participate in the spirit of the community. There is no login, no registration, no profit. Origin, age, skin color, gender, sexuality, religion are irrelevant. Anyone who wants to contribute can do so.
At the same time, "Sentido Contrario" is also the base for biological research into the humpback whales and other marine mammals that pass by the coast here. When I pass by for the first time, Ivan is working on his report for monitoring the humpback whales, some of which can be seen with the naked eye from Punta Cometa this season. He tells me about his project, his research methods and everything I understand (with my poor Spanish at the time) I take on board as I am also a biologist and we understand each other very well, despite the language barrier. I find out that there is no government organization here that takes care of monitoring or protecting the whales. The only support or funding Ivan and the others have ever received is three pairs of binoculars and a laptop (which the five of us will later share, also for the production of the film). All other equipment and work is paid for out of pocket - which doesn't matter if you're passionate about something.
I'm thrilled and ask Ivan how I can take part. He sees my camera and says that they always need people who can take photos. I suggest something better. We shoot a movie. In disbelief, he hands me the fanzine of Eli, his good friend and artist, as a parting gift. The fanzine is a small comic, hand-drawn and photocopied, a guide to responsible whale watching, explaining in a friendly, playful and loving way why the welfare of whales is the welfare of us all. And our movie will also be about Eli and her art. It took me a long time to convince Mert to make this movie about whales with me. At the time I met him, he had other concerns than protecting the humpback whales off the coast of Oaxaca. But in the end we decided to make this movie and it turned out well.
Mert, our team and I have documented the work and everyday life of these wonderful people in this independent documentary. How artists, marine biologists, political scientists, musicians, the unemployed, the homeless, refugees and real pirates work together in such touching ways, giving meaning to their lives, being more by protecting marine life.
How does your donation help the whales on the coast of Oaxaca?
Not at all, because money has no use under water and you can't simply buy a better world in which every life on earth is respected.
Well, at least the donation doesn't help the whales directly, but in a way it does.
First and foremost, you are helping us with a donation: The production of this independent film was completely self-financed by our small team, we have no sponsors or broadcasters who have supported us financially. From travel to the campsite, hostel costs, the search for a working laptop cable for a borrowed MacBook Pro in the jungle of Ventenilla, gasoline costs, bus rides, food, drinking water, mosquito nets, scorpion poisons, hospital costs... we paid every little expense out of our own pockets - and in 3 months of production, we raised quite a bit. Even though so many friends helped us without hesitation and without ever asking for anything in return, be it translating between Spanish, English, Turkish, German, French (thanks Marianne!), free accommodation (thanks Grillo!), a MacBook for editing (thanks Omar!), professional drone recordings (thanks Robin!), motorcycle rental (thanks Martini!) or remote motion graphics (thanks Robin2!), and many more - we would also like to show our appreciation to all these people and return the favor financially or in any other way.
Producing this movie was a matter of the heart for Mert and me, we didn't care about the money we left behind - but now we urgently need your help. (Not least so that our director can finally book his return ticket to Istanbul soon (Ohh Mert no mames!)). Our team is broke and broke, and we would love to continue our creative collaboration at some point. So the first part of the donations goes to us humans (and whale friends) to cover our costs, and not directly to the whales.

In the film, we show how it is possible to go whale watching responsibly, offering a kind of cinematic guide for tour guides, but also for tourists worldwide, on how to behave responsibly towards marine mammals and how to observe them in their full splendor in the right way, without disturbing them in their habitat. "If everyone acts with responsibility, the whales will continue to pass by here on the coast, if on the other hand we disturb the animals too much, the children of tomorrow may not be able to see them" (quote from TRAFICO: Ambrosio, tour guide with experience, Porto Angel). The movie has a clear message to respect every life on earth. In order to spread this message as widely as possible, we want to put the finishing touches to the film in post-production and then submit it to film festivals in Latin America and Europe so that it can be shown to a large audience on bigger stages. We are also dependent on donations to realize this.
The other part of the donations will go to the association Ciencia en Cometa or SICEA. This very young citizens' association made up of young local Mexican biologists and volunteers with an affinity for biology has been carrying out educational work for tourists, travelers and tour guides in the region around Mazunte for two years. In the spirit of community science, interested citizens and tourists are actively involved in whale monitoring and shown ways to protect marine life. During monitoring, the whales are observed and photographed, their species are determined, in which formations and which groups they pass by, where they migrate to and why. All this data is important in order to protect the lives of marine life and to know where protection zones against industrial fishing and oil drilling companies need to be set up off the coasts worldwide. Ciencia en Cometa is also completely self-managed and all expenses incurred are self-financed. With a donation, you can help this wonderful team of conservationists to acquire new equipment such as cameras, binoculars, laptops for data analysis or perhaps one day their own research boat. Many members of the association do hard paid work in addition to their voluntary work dedicated to the protection of whales in order to somehow afford the expensive life on the gentrified coast. With a donation you would help these people to fully focus on their conservation work during the high season. They are the ones who give a voice to life in the sea, to those who come from deep below.
The film has already been shown on smaller and larger screens in Mexico City, Puebla, Xochimilco, Mazunte, Zipolite, Acapulco and many other places throughout Mexico. We collected donations by selling fanzines and T-shirts. As a result, we experienced many more adventures and received great feedback, but we were barely able to refinance our travel costs with the money we raised. Our goal would be to show the film on bigger stages around the world, as we believe it is important to spread it further, as it shows in such a wonderful way how people who couldn't be more different stick together to protect marine life. That's why we're launching this crowdfunding now. We will release the official version of the finished film online on Vimeo or YouTube in spring 2024 as soon as we have covered our production costs.
Any money left over after we have covered our production costs and supported our friends from Ciencia in Cometa for their future projects, we will put directly into the production of TRAFICO 2! We want to start shooting it as soon as possible and maybe it will be about crocodiles and skateboards, or sea turtles and trains.

Şimdi Meksika'daydım. Deniz kenarında. Nihayet deniz kenarındaydım ve hayatımda ilk kez yalnız seyahat ediyordum. Onunla tanıştığımda Oaxaca kıyılarındaki kambur balinaları korumaktan başka kaygıları vardı. Ama sonunda bu filmi yapmaya karar verdik ve ortaya iyi bir iş çıktı.
Mert, ekibimiz ve ben bu bağımsız belgeselde bu harika insanların çalışmalarını ve günlük yaşamlarını belgeledik. Sanatçıların, deniz biyologlarının, siyaset bilimcilerin, müzisyenlerin, işsizlerin, evsizlerin, mültecilerin ve gerçek korsanların nasıl bu kadar dokunaklı bir şekilde birlikte çalıştıklarını, hayatlarına anlam kattıklarını ve deniz yaşamını koruyarak daha fazla olduklarını.

En azından bağış balinalara doğrudan yardım etmiyor, ama bir şekilde ediyor.

Bu filmi yapmak Mert ve benim için bir gönül meselesiydi, geride bıraktığımız para umurumuzda değildi - ama şimdi acilen yardımınıza ihtiyacımız var. (En azından yönetmenimizin yakında İstanbul'a dönüş biletini alabilmesi için (Ohh Mert no mames!)). Ekibimiz beş parasız kaldı ve yaratıcı işbirliğimize bir noktada devam etmeyi çok isteriz. Bu yüzden bağışların ilk kısmı masraflarımızı karşılamak için biz insanlara (ve balina dostlarımıza) gidiyor, doğrudan balinalara değil.
Bununla birlikte, bağışınızla sadece Oaxaca kıyılarında değil, balina gözlemciliğinin yapıldığı her yerde balinaların yaşam alanlarının korunmasına da yardımcı oluyorsunuz. Filmde, sorumlu bir şekilde balina gözlemciliği yapmanın nasıl mümkün olduğunu göstererek, tur rehberleri için olduğu kadar dünya çapındaki turistler için de deniz memelilerine karşı nasıl sorumlu davranılacağı ve onları yaşam alanlarında rahatsız etmeden tüm ihtişamlarıyla doğru bir şekilde nasıl gözlemleyebilecekleri konusunda bir tür sinematik rehber sunuyoruz. "Eğer herkes sorumlulukla hareket ederse balinalar bu sahilden geçmeye devam edecek, diğer yandan hayvanları çok fazla rahatsız edersek yarının çocukları onları göremeyebilir" (TRAFICO'dan alıntı: Ambrosio, deneyimli tur rehberi, Porto Angel). Film, dünya üzerindeki her yaşama saygı duyulması yönünde açık bir mesaj veriyor. Bu mesajı olabildiğince geniş kitlelere yayabilmek için post-prodüksiyon aşamasında filme son rötuşları yapmak ve ardından Latin Amerika ve Avrupa'daki film festivallerine göndererek daha büyük sahnelerde geniş kitlelere gösterilmesini sağlamak istiyoruz. Bunu gerçekleştirmek için de bağışlara ihtiyacımız var.
Bağışların diğer kısmı Ciencia en Cometa ya da SICEA derneğine gidecek. Meksikalı genç yerel biyologlardan ve biyolojiye ilgi duyan gönüllülerden oluşan bu çok genç vatandaş derneği, iki yıldır Mazunte çevresindeki bölgede turistler, gezginler ve tur rehberleri için eğitim çalışmaları yürütüyor. Toplum bilimi ruhuyla, ilgili vatandaşlar ve turistler balinaların izlenmesine aktif olarak katılıyor ve deniz yaşamını korumanın yolları gösteriliyor. İzleme sırasında balinalar gözlemlenip fotoğraflanıyor, türleri belirleniyor, hangi oluşumlar ve hangi gruplar halinde geçtikleri, nereye göç ettikleri ve neden göç ettikleri tespit ediliyor. Tüm bu veriler, deniz yaşamının korunması ve dünya kıyılarında endüstriyel balıkçılık ve petrol sondaj şirketlerine karşı nerelerde koruma bölgeleri oluşturulması gerektiğinin bilinmesi açısından önem taşıyor. Ciencia en Cometa ayrıca tamamen kendi kendini yönetmektedir ve yapılan tüm harcamalar kendi kendini finanse etmektedir. Yapacağınız bir bağışla, bu harika koruma ekibinin kameralar, dürbünler, veri analizi için dizüstü bilgisayarlar gibi yeni ekipmanlar edinmesine ve belki de bir gün kendi araştırma teknelerine sahip olmalarına yardımcı olabilirsiniz. Yapacağınız bir bağışla bu insanların yüksek sezonda tamamen koruma çalışmalarına odaklanmalarına yardımcı olabilirsiniz. Onlar denizdeki yaşama, derinlerden gelenlere ses verenlerdir.
Film daha şimdiden Mexico City, Puebla, Xochimilco, Mazunte, Zipolite, Acapulco ve Meksika'nın birçok yerinde küçük ve büyük ekranlarda gösterildi. Fanzinler ve tişörtler satarak bağış topladık. Sonuç olarak çok daha fazla macera yaşadık ve harika geri bildirimler aldık, ancak topladığımız parayla seyahat masraflarımızı ancak karşılayabildik. Amacımız bu filmi dünya çapında daha büyük sahnelerde göstermek, çünkü birbirinden çok farklı olan insanların deniz yaşamını korumak için nasıl bir araya geldiklerini harika bir şekilde gösteren bu filmin daha fazla yayılmasının önemli olduğuna inanıyoruz. Bu nedenle bu kitlesel fonlamayı şimdi başlatıyoruz. Bitmiş filmin resmi versiyonunu, prodüksiyon maliyetlerimizi karşılar karşılamaz 2024 baharında Vimeo veya YouTube'da yayınlayacağız.
Prodüksiyon maliyetlerimizi karşıladıktan ve Ciencia in Cometa'daki arkadaşlarımızı gelecekteki projeleri için destekledikten sonra kalan parayı doğrudan TRAFICO 2'nin prodüksiyonuna aktaracağız! Mümkün olan en kısa sürede çekimlere başlamak istiyoruz ve belki de timsahlar ve kaykaylar ya da deniz kaplumbağaları ve trenler hakkında olacak.

Esta es una película sobre ballenas y bicicletas. Dos imágenes que en principio no van juntas. Igual que los aguacates en los supermercados alemanes y las botellas de Coca-Cola de 3 litros en los pequeños pueblos mexicanos. O cómo un director turco sin dinero y un autor alemán, siempre hambriento y sin blanca, se encuentran en un camping y deciden hacer un documental en español sobre las ballenas en el Pacífico mexicano.
Así que ahora estaba en México. Junto al mar. Por fin junto al mar y viajando solo por primera vez en mi vida. Pero no me quedé solo mucho tiempo, porque conocí a Mert, que estaba igual de fuera de lugar aquí en este camping roto y hermoso escondido en la playa de Mermejita, donde sólo aquellos que no tenían miedo de las viudas marrones, serpientes venenosas, escorpiones, olas altas o terremotos se quedaban a pasar la noche. Aquí nos conocimos Mert Sen y yo.
Poco después, conozco a Iván Miranda. Es hidrobiólogo, de Iztapalapa (Ciudad de México), y ha dedicado su vida a observar y vigilar las ballenas en la costa mexicana del Pacífico. Él y su amigo Markos Muñoz regentan una pequeña tienda alternativa en Mazunte llamada "Sentido Contrario".
La tienda se mantiene a flote, es decir, paga el alquiler, vendiendo comida vegana, kombucha de producción local, cocao, Hydromiel (cerveza de miel) y ropa de segunda mano. Es una tienda comunitaria y todo el mundo está invitado a participar en el espíritu de la comunidad. No hay inicio de sesión, ni registro, ni ánimo de lucro. El origen, la edad, el color de la piel, el sexo, la sexualidad y la religión son irrelevantes. Cualquiera que quiera contribuir puede hacerlo.
Al mismo tiempo, "Sentido Contrario" es también la base para la investigación biológica de las ballenas jorobadas y otros mamíferos marinos que pasan por la costa aquí. Cuando paso por allí por primera vez, Iván está trabajando en su informe para el monitoreo de las ballenas jorobadas, algunas de las cuales pueden verse a simple vista desde Punta Cometa esta temporada. Me cuenta su proyecto, sus métodos de investigación y todo lo que entiendo (con mi pobre español de entonces) lo asumo ya que yo también soy biólogo y nos entendemos muy bien, a pesar de la barrera del idioma. Me entero de que aquí no hay ninguna organización estatal que se encargue de vigilar o proteger a las ballenas. La única ayuda o financiación que han recibido Ivan y los demás son tres pares de prismáticos y un ordenador portátil (que luego compartiremos los cinco, también para la producción de la película). El resto del equipo y la mano de obra se paga de nuestro bolsillo, lo que no importa si algo te apasiona.
Estoy encantada y le pregunto a Iván cómo puedo participar. Ve mi cámara y dice que siempre necesitan gente que sepa hacer fotos. Le propongo algo mejor. Rodamos una película. Incrédulo, me entrega el fanzine de Eli, su buen amigo y artista, como regalo de despedida. El fanzine es un pequeño cómic, dibujado a mano y fotocopiado, una guía para la observación responsable de las ballenas, que explica de forma simpática, lúdica y cariñosa por qué el bienestar de las ballenas es el bienestar de todos nosotros. Y nuestra película también tratará sobre Eli y su arte. Me llevó mucho tiempo convencer a Mert de que hiciera esta película sobre ballenas conmigo. Cuando le conocí, tenía otras preocupaciones que proteger a las ballenas jorobadas de la costa de Oaxaca. Pero al final decidimos hacer esta película y salió bien.
Mert, nuestro equipo y yo hemos documentado el trabajo y la vida cotidiana de estas maravillosas personas en este documental independiente. Cómo artistas, biólogos marinos, politólogos, músicos, parados, sin techo, refugiados y auténticos piratas colaboran de formas tan conmovedoras, dando sentido a sus vidas, siendo más al proteger la vida marina.
¿Cómo ayuda tu donación a las ballenas de la costa de Oaxaca?
En absoluto, porque el dinero no sirve de nada bajo el agua y no se puede comprar un mundo mejor en el que se respeten todas las formas de vida.
Bueno, al menos la donación no ayuda directamente a las ballenas, pero en cierto modo sí.
Ante todo, nos ayudas con una donación: la producción de esta película independiente ha sido totalmente autofinanciada por nuestro pequeño equipo, no tenemos patrocinadores ni emisoras que nos hayan apoyado económicamente. Desde el viaje al campamento, los gastos de albergue, la búsqueda de un cable de ordenador portátil que funcionara para un MacBook Pro prestado en la selva de Ventenilla, los gastos de gasolina, los viajes en autobús, la comida, el agua potable, las mosquiteras, los venenos para escorpiones, los gastos de hospital... hemos pagado cada pequeño gasto de nuestros bolsillos - y en 3 meses de producción, hemos recaudado bastante. Aunque muchos amigos nos ayudaron sin dudarlo y sin pedir nunca nada a cambio, ya fuera traduciendo entre español, inglés, turco, alemán y francés (¡gracias Marianne!), alojamiento gratuito (¡gracias Grillo!), un MacBook para editar (¡gracias Omar!), tomas profesionales con drones (¡gracias Robin!), alquiler de motos (¡gracias Martini!) o gráficos en movimiento a distancia (¡gracias Robin2!), y muchos más, también nos gustaría mostrar nuestro agradecimiento a todas estas personas y devolverles el favor económicamente o de alguna otra manera.
Producir esta película era una cuestión de corazón para Mert y para mí, no nos importaba el dinero que nos dejáramos, pero ahora necesitamos tu ayuda urgentemente. (Sobre todo para que nuestro director pueda por fin reservar pronto su billete de vuelta a Estambul (¡Ohh Mert no mames!)). Nuestro equipo está arruinado y sin dinero, y nos encantaría continuar nuestra colaboración creativa en algún momento. Así que la primera parte de las donaciones va a nosotros los humanos (y amigos de las ballenas) para cubrir nuestros gastos, y no directamente a las ballenas.
Sin embargo, con tu donación también estás ayudando a proteger el hábitat de las ballenas, no sólo en la costa de Oaxaca, sino en todas partes donde se practica la observación de ballenas. En la película mostramos cómo es posible realizar un avistamiento de ballenas responsable, ofreciendo una guía cinematográfica para los guías turísticos, pero también para los turistas de todo el mundo, sobre cómo comportarse de forma responsable con los mamíferos marinos y cómo observarlos en todo su esplendor de la forma correcta, sin molestarlos en su hábitat. "Si todos actuamos con responsabilidad, las ballenas seguirán pasando por aquí por la costa, pero si las molestamos demasiado, puede que los niños de mañana no puedan verlas" (cita de TRAFICO: Ambrosio, guía turístico con experiencia, Porto Angel). La película tiene un mensaje claro: respetar todas las formas de vida en la Tierra. Para difundir este mensaje lo más ampliamente posible, queremos dar los últimos toques a la película en la posproducción y luego presentarla a festivales de cine en América Latina y Europa para que pueda ser mostrada a un gran público en escenarios más grandes. Para ello, también dependemos de las donaciones.
La otra parte de los donativos se destinará a la asociación Ciencia en Cometa o SICEA. Esta joven asociación ciudadana formada por jóvenes biólogos mexicanos y voluntarios afines a la biología lleva dos años realizando una labor educativa para turistas, viajeros y guías turísticos en la región de Mazunte. En el espíritu de la ciencia comunitaria, los ciudadanos y turistas interesados participan activamente en el seguimiento de las ballenas y se les muestran formas de proteger la vida marina. Durante el seguimiento, se observan y fotografían las ballenas, se determina su especie, en qué formaciones y grupos pasan, a dónde migran y por qué. Todos estos datos son importantes para proteger la vida de la fauna marina y saber dónde hay que establecer zonas de protección contra la pesca industrial y las empresas petrolíferas frente a las costas de todo el mundo. Además, Ciencia en Cometa está totalmente autogestionada y todos los gastos en los que incurre son autofinanciados. Con un donativo, usted puede ayudar a este maravilloso equipo de conservacionistas a adquirir nuevos equipos, como cámaras, prismáticos, ordenadores portátiles para el análisis de datos o quizá algún día su propio barco de investigación. Muchos miembros de la asociación realizan un duro trabajo remunerado (gracias por nada Daniel Xants) junto a su labor voluntaria de protección de las ballenas para poder permitirse de alguna manera la costosa vida en la aburguesada costa. Con un donativo ayudarías a estas personas a centrarse plenamente en su labor de conservación durante la temporada alta. Ellos son los que dan voz a la vida en el mar, a los que vienen de las profundidades.
La película ya se ha proyectado en pantallas pequeñas y grandes de Ciudad de México, Puebla, Xochimilco, Mazunte, Zipolite, Acapulco y muchos otros lugares de México. Recaudamos donativos vendiendo fanzines y camisetas. Como resultado, tuvimos muchas más aventuras y recibimos grandes comentarios, pero apenas pudimos refinanciar nuestros gastos de viaje con el dinero recaudado. Nuestro objetivo sería proyectar la película en escenarios más grandes de todo el mundo, pues creemos que es importante difundirla más, ya que muestra de forma tan maravillosa cómo personas que no podrían ser más diferentes se unen para proteger la vida marina. Por eso lanzamos ahora este crowdfunding. Publicaremos la versión oficial de la película terminada en Vimeo o YouTube en la primavera de 2024, en cuanto hayamos cubierto los costes de producción.
Todo el dinero que sobre después de haber cubierto nuestros costes de producción y de haber apoyado a nuestros amigos de Ciencia en Cometa para sus futuros proyectos, ¡lo invertiremos directamente en la producción de TRAFICO 2! Queremos empezar a rodarla lo antes posible y quizá trate de cocodrilos y monopatines, o de tortugas marinas y trenes.
