Hi, my name is Steph; I'm a freelance Illustrator and I live with my retired parents in a rental apartment. Things are tight as it is and I'm living paycheque to paycheque. In January, the rent went up, and now we've been told it's going up another $50 in March, but that's not my biggest concern. A court case regarding the rent increase cap went to court recently, and the tenants lost. This case dates back to 2022, and the increase has been made retroactive to 2022. We've been told that there's an almost $2000 outstanding amount that's due by August 21st. That's just 6 months from now, and without help I don't know how we're going to be able to pay this sudden debt off, on top of the regular household bills.
