Retroactive Raise for Kels's Top Surgery

Howdy howdy everyone! I wanted to do this for their two year top surgery anniversary but I straight up just dropped the ball - so trying again for their birthday! This isn't really a bday thing, but like, idk feels like a natural time to appreciate their existence. I decided to put together this gofundme to do a retroactive raise for Kels's top surgery expenses for a few reasons:

1) This was a massive expense. Kels made it happen on their own without any coverage from insurance, but they spent basically everything they had to do it. While their discipline and hard work to make this happen is certainly something to admire, I don't want to encourage that. Instead, I think a more appropriate response here is frustration at a system (or failure of a system) that requires such things of someone for access to basic healthcare. The reality is that while Kels made this happen, they had to sacrifice a lot - including a basic feeling of stability that a healthy savings account can provide.

2) They are very loved, but they are stubborn. Kels wouldn't (and didn't) ask for money from folks in their life for this expense. I won't pretend to know the full extent of the reasons, but I do know that in doing so they did not allow all of you the space to show them love and care. I know many, many people that see this would have cherished an opportunity to, in a small way, show your love and support and care for them specifically, as well as for your non-cis community. Here is an opportunity!

3) Joy and liberation. If you've had the privileged opportunity to watch the joy/settledness/relief/pride flitter across their face when they touch their chest or catch a glimpse of their pecs in a mirror, then you have some beginning of an understanding of what this decision has done for them. And by way of their joy, what it has done for the community around them (i.e. you!) Kels's life is a testament to the joy and liberation that we all deserve if we can be allowed to live authentically.
