Introduction

Hey everyone! My name is Adam Lim and I am a writer/ director looking to raise funds for my action short film, "Retribution." This project is my grad film project for JMC Academy Brisbane and it is by far the most ambitious, and close to my heart project I have done.

About the Film

Retribution is an action short film, no longer than 15 minutes, that has a real emotional, familial story behind it.

We are dropped right into the action, following Nick Donnovan as he travels across Queensland to find his kidnapped son, Daniel.

Nick's past comes to haunt him, being a part of a notorious gang, but being kicked out over a decade ago after a failed mission, led to countless gang deaths including that of his and his best friend's wives. We follow Nick as he revisits his haunting past, he uncovers the truth about what happened to his son, and he fights to keep his loved one's safe.

My style as a director has always been real, and gritty. I love films that captivate the audiences by placing them in the action and making you feel the rush of a gun fight, chase sequence, or car race.

What does Retribution relate to?

Retribution aims to bring Hollywood-esque story telling to a uniquely Australian setting. The story of family shines through eye catching, edge of your seat sequences and stunning visuals.

Why me?

I pride myself in being an action genre director. I grew up watching action films, jumping and climbing out of my house's windows, and trying to be the next 'Ethan Hunt.' I was fortunate enough to follow my dreams and move to Brisbane, Australia to study film and now, I am not only on my last leg of my uni journey, but I am trying to make films that I want to make, and that will get not only myself, but my talented crew recognised.

Now, I agree. Making action films in uni is quite ballsy. With so many safety issues, so much preproduction, and so much planning, it is not an easy task, but I assure you, I have the experience, discipline, and mindset to make this work, as my other projects before.

I have previously written and directed my own action short film entitled, "Senior On Siege," and I learned HEAPS from it. I choreographed a one take fight scene, and worked with the entire crew to block, rehearse, and shoot a complex sequence in a tight space. That being said, I have the knowledge and experience to make this work and I assure you I will pour my heart and soul into seeing this project through, and making something entertaining, emotional, and thrilling for everyone to enjoy.

Where your money will be going.

Of course, asking for money from random people takes a lot of your faith in me and in my project and I want to assure you that it will be well spent, and regulated. The budget for Retribution is aimed for 4-6K AUD.

With your contributions, we will be looking to:

We need highly skilled actors to jump onboard Retribution as there are big sequences, and fight scenes that require experience, work ethic and commitment. This will cost more for choreography days, rehearsal days, including shoot days too.

Being a story that travels across Queensland, and is set partly in the beautiful GlassHouse Mountain ranges, we need the budget to pay for locations, sets, and liaise with the council to make this film truly Aussie.

Action films are physically demanding. Furthermore, a film at this scale requires a lot of effort from the entire crew. Coming into the hot season here in Brisbane, food, sustenance, and especially water and hydration will be big on the list to keep everybody well fed, energised, and healthy for each productive shoot day.

Production Schedules
