- Hi, my name is Nancy. My life has been a journey of finding who I am, and finally, I found my calling as a nurse in my 30s. A little late in my life, but after a bad MVA and a long stay in the hospital, I felt I was called to care for others during their time of healing. I was raising 2 sons and 1 daughter as a single mom and always worked to support them while getting my education. I retired after 35 years of working at a job I loved, especially working in the NICU. I became a strong woman due to many disappointments and struggles, some caused by bad choices. Because I have never felt comfortable asking for help, I've never reached out to others. Through my struggles, my faith has grown stronger, and I believe now that help comes in many ways and there are still good people who are willing to help others in their time of need.
- About 1 year ago, I went into the hospital for a routine surgical procedure, and during admission, I got chest pain with extremely high blood pressure. I was admitted to the cardiac unit and remained hospitalized for 2 weeks. During that time, my BP became very low when I stood up, so I remained in bed. Now my pressures fluctuate between very high and very low everyday. After many tests, many problems were found, but doctors didn't have a diagnosis or treatment for me. I was sent home with no answers and admitted to the hospital again and several more ER trips after. After seeing a neurologist, she diagnosed me with autonomic failure but wasn't sure and didn't know how to treat me, so she referred me to The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. After 6 months, doctors at The Mayo Clinic have agreed to see me and run tests for 7 days. I'm scheduled to go in September.
- I have previous medical bills and have been unable to save enough for the flight to Minnesota from Pennsylvania, lodging, and food for the 7-day stay plus hospital bills. My symptoms have worsened, and days not being able to get out of bed have increased. My quality of life is decreasing. At this time, there is no one able to help financially, so I would be grateful for whatever help I can get. Thank you for taking time to read my story and any support you can give
