Retired Law Enforcement Officer With Leukemia

Donation protected
Hello, this GoFundMe is for my exceptional Father, Alan, and the two-month stay that will be medically necessary due to Stem Cell Transplant in another state. All donations will strictly be for this purpose, and the target is a low-ball figure. Costs could amount to significantly more. Let me explain his life and situation is greater detail.

Alan was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in June of this year (2023). He spent approximately seven weeks in hospitals, six of which at Huntsman Cancer Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT. During this time, he not only battled his leukemia diagnosis and associated initial chemotherapy treatment but also pneumonia and COVID-19. Since this initial hospitalization, he has bounced between home and other hospital stays as well as undergoing consolidation chemo. He is currently in the process of finding the best match to perform a stem cell transplant. After Alan’s stem cell transplant and associated hospital stay, he and one caregiver, are required to live within 30 minutes of Huntsman Cancer Institute for approximately two to three months after he is discharged from the hospital. This is for ongoing treatment and in case of a medical emergency. This two- to three-month stay is the purpose of this GoFundMe. Alan will need to live in a clean place (for health reasons after transplant), along with a family caregiver, all of which live in Idaho.

Why do I think my Father deserves a GoFundMe? Other than the fact that he has been an amazing father and supporter in my life, that is? My Father made it his life’s mission to serve and protect the communities he has lived in. Alan is a retired Law Enforcement Officer after almost 40 years of serving the communities of Tuolumne County, CA; Modesto, CA; and Jackson, WY. Alan was not only an outstanding officer who earned many accolades and trained other officers, but he intensely trained Police Service Dogs that outperformed other Police Dogs in several categories during real-life work as well as in Police K-9 competitions (obedience, drug detection, and suspect apprehension). His passion for dogs is beyond compare, except maybe to a fellow Police Officer from Gillette, WY. They bonded over their passion for Police Dogs and have been best friends for almost 35 years. This fellow officer and Alan lead multiple Police K-9 Handler schools. They trained Police Officers from around the state of Wyoming, along with their dogs, to become the very best assets to their communities. Playing a large role in keeping our streets safe for all of us, our kids, and other loved ones. Not only that, these two created and initiated the Police K-9 standards for the State of Wyoming after Alan started working for Jackson Police Department. Even after retirement, he still has a passion for protecting people which is evident by his daily actions and interactions.

Alan has not only been a caring protector of the communities he has served but also a family man, raising two kids with old-fashioned values of working hard and earning what you have and want. He is also a loving grandfather who has been a major support to his daughter during hard times in which one of his grandchildren has had severe medical issues that started as a baby. He is a firm believer in the proverb, ‘Actions speak louder than words”. He has always believed in consistently eating right and physical fitness, something that has played a significant role in how his body has been handling his current medical situation and will be an asset to him during the stem cell transplant. Alan has a lot left to give both to his numerous projects, as well as to his family and friends. Your help in allowing a successful stem cell transplant so he can remain a shining light in numerous individuals’ lives would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time in reading this and thank you in advance for your donation. It means more than words can say!
