Help Lt. Goens in his battle against cancer.

Hello my name is Kevin Broyles and I am fundraising to help a close friend raise money to pay for his cancer treatment.

Michael is a thirty year veteran of the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office. He served for many of those years as a training officer. Michael impacted many past, and current law enforcement officers as well as members of the military in this role. Deputy Goens served not only the citizens of Roanoke City, but the surrounding cities and counties as a member of the Roanake City Sherriff's Office SWAT team for 16 years. During those years he earned several commendations including two for Valor.

Mike is an avid fisherman, loves shooting sports including longe range percision, as well as martial arts and is a helluva gamer.

Mike Goens retired from the Sheriff's Office in May of 2022. In November of 2023 he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer. "Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma". Obviously he and his family and friends are devistated by this diagnosis. Mike is a fighter and is giving it his all in this battle. As you can imagine, in addition to the emotional and physical stress this has put on Mike and his wife, there is a significant financial burden as well.
