Retired Couple Facing Severe Harassment

Please Help! As I sit at my kitchen table typing this, I am wearing noise cancelling earbuds! We seem to be our neighbors’ “hobby”! He has made it his mission to torment and harass us. We moved back to our home town area after my husband retired in October, 2020. The problems started in December, 2020. Our neighbor threatened us with a gun (it was tucked in his waistband but the implication was obvious) over HIS garbage cans on OUR property blocking our mailbox. We ended up having to put a hold on our mail for about 6 weeks. Things escalated in February, 2021. In retaliation he began playing his music at around 85 decibels, exceeding the 70-decibel legal limit. He plays his music from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, when his girlfriend gets home, Monday through Friday, February through October. He takes a few breaks November through January for hunting.

We cannot enjoy our home - inside OR outside. No relaxing cups of coffee on our front porch, no reading on our patio, no hammock time, no piddling in the garage without our noise cancelling earbuds in or any type of ear protection, which puts a real damper on conversation! We have called the non-emergency police number, when or (if) they do come out, they tell him to turn it down, which maybe lasts an hour.

We love our home and have a lot of family and friends in the surrounding area. We have actually tried to move when it got to be too much for us to bear, we put the house on the market twice, no takers.

We are trying to raise money to cover the cost of a decibel reader to accurately measure the loud music and be calibrated and certified so that it will “hold up in court” (not a phone app). We also need funds to hire a civil lawyer. We will be suing for harassment. A few of the other harassing things include: building a dam in the county easement which blocks the storm water drainage, (which is a Felony but, the local police won’t act on this), our yard and driveway flood after only an inch and a half of rain.

He also placed severed, rotting deer heads on a pole on the property line, four different times! The smell, the maggots, the flies!

He has hung several signs facing our property, clearly intended for us, including a Nazi symbol.

He (53 yr old man) has threatened to “beat the shit outta” my husband (72 yr old man).

We have contacted the county police, code enforcement, police sergeant, police lieutenant, county commissioners and the county administrator, all to no avail. We have tried to have a conversation with our neighbor. We really have tried to resolve this issue peacefully and within the law.

This has affected our mental health and our quality of life. All we want is to be able to peaceably enjoy our home and property and possibly (just maybe) putz around in the garage without wearing noise-cancelling ear buds or ear protection. Oh, to be able to be in our kitchen, living or bath room without wearing noise cancelling earbuds!!
