Hello, as many of you already know, my name is Surey Vega and I’m a Canine Enforcement Officer for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. I recently adopted K9 Nero who was scheduled for euthanasia due to his medical condition.
Nero was diagnosed with a tumor in his neck which has spread to his brain and spinal cord which is presumed to be paraganglioma.
Despite this medical condition, Nero continues to strive going on short walks, playing fetch, following his fur brothers everywhere, eating & drinking and wagging his tail nonstop. If Nero is willing to fight, so am I.
After 3 consultations with oncologists, it was agreed that Stereotactic radiation therapy would be his best chance at a good quality of life with a prognosis of 10-12 months. Nero is now 9 years 7 months old.
After his many years of service with CBP with the highest number of narcotics seizures which earned him the name “King Nero” and “Top Dog”, he deserves a chance for a life after retirement.
Many of you have offered to donate towards his medical expenses and I sincerely thank you not only for your kindness but for caring so much for Nero.
Your donation to his medical expense would be greatly appreciated. Nero is being treated by Jarred Lyons, DVM at Animal Cancer Care Clinic in Fort Lauderdale.
Today, June 30, 2022, we saw a decline in Nero’s health and a CT Scan was done to start radiation therapy tomorrow, July 1, 2022. He will have 3 radiation treatments continuing July 5th and July 11th. Prayers are also welcomed and appreciated.
Thank you again!
