Undead Thread is my greatest business achievement. Apart from my relationship, it has made me more proud than anything else I've accomplished.
Last Sunday, my studio went up in flames, along with 4 years' worth of my work. About 95% of my inventory
As I cleaned out the remnants of a studio I built with my own two hands, I saw scraps of clothing and knew the history behind every single recognizable piece of cloth.
This studio was my little piece of solitude, as my wife and I started our homesteading journey, living in an RV. Something I crafted with so much care and energy. It gave me peace.
After buying the land, interest rates rose and rose, and by the time we finally built our home and had our first child, the payments were just unsustainable.
We decided it's time to find a new path, and that we should put this home up for sale.
Less than a week later, my collection was all ashes.
I really put everything into Undead Thread. And what's even better than making money from art, is finding people who became customers, then friends.
People who I will forever be grateful for, who helped me realize I was capable.
That's something that can't be burnt away. And I'm beyond grateful for everyone who has supported me on my journey.
It brought me out of a dark place.
I'm not sure what the future holds for Undead Thread. But I plan to share my techniques and strategies so others can make art from cloth, and one day come back better than ever.
Resurrected, you could say.
It's hard to know what caused it, but our best guess (fire department and mine) is an electrical malfunction, possibly due to a sit-stand desk or the lamp, although both have been off since we had our baby.
I'm sure people will ask, so I'll say it, I'm not getting anything from insurance. Trust me, I wish I could.
I don't love asking for help, or even for support really.
But if you can, and you desire to, donate to our family, I would be even more grateful than I already am.
Much love.
