Western Oromia Wallaggaa stands at a crossroads. Years of instability have closed schools, damaged vital facilities, displaced families, and driven away devoted teachers. Yet in the midst of these hardships, the unbreakable spirit of children shines through. Their dreams remain alive, reminding us that hope can flourish even in the darkest times. We are called to stand with them and help turn adversity into possibility.
The consequences are stark. This year, out of 97 secondary schools in Western Wallaggaa, an alarming 57 reported no students passing the national 12th-grade examination. While educational setbacks are seen across Ethiopia, Wallaggaa faces an especially steep and heartbreaking decline. Yet, we know that with courage, unity, and compassion, transformation is possible. Our collective action can light the way to a brighter future.
Middle school results reveal a troubling trend as well. Wallaggaa currently ranks in the 60th percentile for 8th-grade passing rates in the Oromia region. The number of students aspiring to enter special academic-talent schools has diminished, showing the far-reaching impact of this crisis. Yet, even the brightest among us can rise higher with encouragement and support. Together, we can reignite their aspirations and help every child reach their potential.
These trends signal a looming crisis; without intervention, an entire generation risks limited opportunities and enduring disadvantage. But together, we can change the story. By acting now, we can open doors, spark ambition, and ignite the limitless potential within every child. The future is unwritten—let’s help them author a new chapter of hope.
For the past five years, WMA has offered emergency support to internally displaced families. Now, as the educational system hangs in the balance, immediate action is essential.
Our multi-faceted approach will include rehabilitating damaged school facilities, providing essential learning materials, supporting teachers and displaced students, and restoring safe, stable classrooms.
Every child deserves the chance to learn. Your belief and support will help us restore hope and build new opportunities for the children of Wallaggaa. When you stand with us, you become a catalyst for change, helping to rebuild dreams and transform not only lives, but an entire community’s future.
Thank you for believing in our mission and choosing to make a difference. Your generosity is planting seeds of hope and opportunity for generations to come.
Together, we can restore education. Together, we can reignite hope.
