Bryan Rutushin's Life

Donation protected
We are raising money for Bryan Rutushin who is 47 years old, a son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, and an ex Marine sniper who served in Desert Storm.  Since the Marine Corps, he has suffered from PTSD. He struggles with this everyday, but has his dog, Junior, to help him through it. Bryan has one of the greatest hearts I know.  He is an extremely active person. He loves to be outdoors and loves to go surfing. He lives in Florida and has family there, a ton of family in Ohio, and family in Virginia. Our goal is to give him the peace of mind to recover his physical body, and not to worry about his immediate financial obligations in the coming months of recovery.  He can’t work for quite some time and his medical expenses are going to be lifelong and ongoing.

On Thursday, April 19, 2018 my older brother, Bryan Rutushin, was a victim of a violent home invasion shooting. Three men with bandanas came into his apartment and shot him multiple times in the leg.  The men fled the scene immediately. Bryan didn’t know he was shot at first until he saw a puddle of blood on his floor. He was bleeding out because the bullets hit his femoral artery. The bullets shredded his artery, veins, and tendons.  Luckily, there was a retired nurse living in Bryan’s complex. By the nurse’s quick response and training, she was able to call an ambulance and get him to the hospital. It is an absolute miracle that he is still alive, and we are forever grateful for that nurse living close by.

Since April 19th, Bryan has been in the ICU, has lost 43 pounds, undergone 12-14 surgeries, 8 blood transfusions, and was lost on the table twice.  While being in the hospital, his apartment was completely cleaned out and destroyed. Thankfully, his dog is being taken care of by a friend. He hates being away from his dog.  Junior has been his entire world, and has helped him get through some of the hardest times.

At this point, the doctors exhausted all options to save his leg.  On May 10th, his leg was amputated below the knee. He is now fighting an infection from the skin graft of the gunshot wound.  We are praying that it will not be necessary for the doctors to remove any more of his leg and keep his knee, which will be instrumental in more mobility and strength with a prosthetic.  Bryan will be in recovery and rehabilitation for at least 3-6 months and he is the sole provider for himself.  Also, we just got word from police that the home invasion has turned into attempted murder.

We sincerely appreciate your donation to help Bryan and his mounting medical bills.  If you can’t donate, please share this!

Please keep Bryan and his family in your prayers.  THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! <3
