Hi, my name is La'Toya Ivory-Mixon and I am the owner of Royally Melanated Beauty Den and Spa LLC. Yesterday afternoon on 10/3/2021 I was notified by my building manager via phone that our building is on fire. Upon my arrival I witness the full building engulfed in flames with a direct visual of my suites damage. The roof eventually caved in all all of my hard work, sweat and tears I poured into my business.
I am a mom of 5, and in June of 2018 I decided I wanted to pursue my love for nails after having my own personal nail battles. So in February of 2019 I decided finally this is what I wanted so I started saving and fundraising to get me to Nail school by doing cheap sets of nails. In October 2019 I completed nail school and in December 2019 I passed my State boards as a Licensed Manicurist. I was told after nail school you have to work in a shop 3-5 years before being a sufficient independent business owner, but my faith said otherwise.
In January of 2020 I signed my very 1st business lease on a 320 sqft suite to get me started (suite 230-C). This suite was 100% covered by state farm insurance. I thrived all 2020 in my new operating business, against the odds. My business was even nominated for 2020 San Bernardino county small business of the year award.
I was blessed yet again in May 2021 with the opportunity to expand to a bigger suite within my business building. So on 6/19/21, I had a Grand Re-Opening of Royally Melanated Beauty Den and Spa LLC now in 1200 sqft (suite 275). After the renovations I updated State Farm insurance with the changes and continued paying my premium. I was contacted in September after their direct deposit for payment didn't go through (3 months after expanding and paying) that their underwriting is now saying I'm not covered for the pedicures I provide. which in fact is a service I have always provided, and when I explained they didn't understand. So I paid for months of coverage service that they are now saying isn't covered.
My husband, kids and I did all the work which made me love my space even more, and Now it's gone!
So this is very hard on me to have to watch all my work and efforts be burned and not salvageable. So this is rare of me but I'm asking for help to get back on my feet, so I can provide for my family. The fire did not start in my suite but in a open yard area with scrubs per the fire department and went up the trees which touched the roof.
Please anything helps
