URGENT HELP NEEDED FOR OUR SMALL BUSINESS

Brooklyn suffered flash flooding on Friday, September 29th, and we were no exception. Our basement- where we keep the majority of our supplies and what has become our main production space- is destroyed and no longer operational.

If you are at all familiar with our journey, you know the last two years have been full of obstacles. We need our collective community now more than ever.

Your contributions will go towards replacing the essential supplies required for running this business.

Every donation, every purchase, every word you share with your neighbor is vital in keeping our doors open.

I have a strong belief that everything that’s happened is pushing Bonbon Lakay to something greater! But how much more can a person take?! Depending on how long you’ve been on this journey with me then you might remember we flooded multiple times the moment we moved into our current space. Hurricane Ida, Hurricane Henri and multiple times leading up to those storms and since. Not every flood caused major damage, so we keep our heads down, work, clean-up and move on. Unfortunately the floods have not been covered by insurance, they waste our time filing paperwork, gathering receipts, only to be told “Acts of God” are not covered. We take the time to submit grant after grant to receive template messages that they received too many applicants. Meanwhile we do our best to snake drains, make repairs as to not flood again but each time water finds a new way in.

With each challenge we gather up strength and motivation from our community to keep going. As if the cost of doing business was not already high enough, this has undoubtedly made the financial burden of running our eatery greater. However with the motivation of my hardworking team I have faith that we can get through this with your collective support.

We’re doing our best to raise funds while simulteanously staying open. It’s proven to be a challenge, but we’re a very resilient group of people. Donations will not only help replace supplies and appliances lost but help make proper repairs to avoid flooding again in the future.
