Help Zoey See Again — Cataract Surgery Fundraiser

Hi everyone, my name is Rick Plowman, and I’m raising funds to help my Boston Terrier, Zoey, get her sight back.

Zoey is 10 years old and has been my best friend since she was a tiny puppy. She’s always been full of energy and love — chasing toys, exploring the yard, and greeting everyone she meets with her trademark wiggle. But recently, her vision has been fading fast due to cataracts in both eyes.

What’s Happening

Zoey was evaluated at BluePearl Pet Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. After multiple tests, including:

Electroretinogram (ERG) to check her retinal function

Ocular ultrasound

Eye pressure monitoring and cataract assessments

… the specialists confirmed she has immature cataracts in both eyes and ocular hypertension (high eye pressure). Thankfully, there’s no retinal detachment — which means surgery can help restore her vision.

However, the doctors also found reduced retinal function, meaning surgery carries some risk — but it remains her best chance at seeing clearly again and preventing further complications.

Treatment & Costs

The estimated total for Zoey’s cataract surgery (both eyes) and required testing, anesthesia, post-op care, and medications comes to between $5,200 and $6,500, as shown in the attached veterinary invoice and reports.

Here’s what’s included:

Pre-surgery diagnostics (ERG, ultrasound, bloodwork)

Cataract surgery (phacoemulsification with artificial lenses)

Anesthesia, monitoring, and overnight care

Medications and follow-up rechecks

I’ve already covered her initial evaluations (over $1,000 out-of-pocket), but I need help covering the surgery itself so she can have the chance to see the world again.
