Restore VFW Post 516 Association: Honor 100 Years of Service

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 516 Farmingdale, N.Y. 11735 was founded in 1920 and our Post has a proud and storied history of serving Veterans and the community of Farmingdale ever since.

Members of our Community have bravely served with honor and distinction in the Armed Forces of the United States of America in every war and conflict since the Spanish American War, including WWI, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Beirut, Grenada, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, The Global War on Terror, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Iraqi Freedom, Syria and continue to serve our great Nation today.

We are now just 5 years past the 100th Anniversary of our esteemed VFW Post 516 Association in Farmingdale and we find ourselves facing a significant challenge. In recent years many of our beloved Post 516 members, most of whom served our Nation proudly in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, have sadly passed away and our ranks have been depleted by 50%. Additionally, years of dedicated service and community engagement have taken their toll, and our beloved Post building is in need of critical repairs. 

VFW Post 516 Association has long been a cornerstone of our community, serving as a gathering place for Veterans and a beacon of support for those who need it most. We provide a vital space for Veterans to connect, share experiences, and receive assistance. From our annual Memorial and Veteran's Day celebrations to our regular support for local Veterans, charities and community organizations, to our Main hall, which members of the community rent for family events. Those can include weddings, retirement parties, graduation parties, Christenings, Communions and even corporate events/ Our post is a vital part of the Farmingdale Community. 

However, recent years have brought about significant damage to our Post, including: [a leaky roof, potholes and damage to our parking lot, need of 2 modern and fuel-efficient boilers, a required chemical fire suppression system for our kitchen, new HVAC air conditioning system, and complete A/C equipment replacement. These issues not only compromise the structural integrity of the building but also jeopardize the safety and well-being of our members and visitors. We are urgently seeking funds to address these issues and restore our post to its former glory.

We have already started work on a comprehensive repair plan and after shopping around, we have acquired the following estimates to include the following: New Roof ($30,000.00)

a total repaving of our parking lot ($10,000.00), 2 new boilers ($25,000.00), a new HVAC system comprised of 3 units ($51,000.000), complete replacement of the A/C Equipment ($15,000.00), and Chemical fire suppression system for our kitchen ($20,000.00).

TOTAL COST OF ALL REPAIRS- $151,000.00

This project will ensure that our Post is safe, functional, and continues to serve the needs of our Veterans and the Farmingdale Community for years to come.
