Hi, I’m Rana, and I’m fundraising for my husband Trevor — truly one of the kindest and strongest people I know.

Early on October 28th, around 5:15am, Trevor’s e-bike battery suddenly combusted in our living room, burning the carpet and destroying his bike. Thanks to his quick thinking, the fire was put out, and we are both physically okay. But losing the e-bike has been a huge setback for Trevor.

Ten years ago, Trevor received a heart transplant at just 15. A year later, complications from a virus attacked his nervous system, leaving him to relearn how to walk. Despite everything his body has been through, Trevor has never stopped pushing forward. Because of lingering tremors and nerve damage, driving has never been an option — so when he discovered bike commuting, it became more than transportation. It became freedom.

For the past three years, Trevor has biked at least 10 miles a day to his job as a special education paraprofessional in Birmingham, rain, snow, or sunshine. Biking also gave him independence he wasn’t sure he’d ever have: running errands, grocery shopping, and even completing 100-mile bikepacking trips. It has brought him joy, stability, and confidence in a way nothing else has.

Right now, Trevor is commuting on his regular “acoustic,” as he calls it, bike, but the physical strain is taking a real toll — and with winter coming, it’s becoming even more difficult. Replacing his e-bike isn’t just about convenience; it’s about restoring the mobility and independence he’s worked so hard to build.
