As many of you know, Jamaica was recently hit with a Category 5 hurricane. All of Carees’s extended family— aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, brother, and niece— lives on a beautiful mountain that overlooks the hills in Manchester. The community is named Top Hill. Thankfully, all of our family members are safe! However, Top Hill was hit very hard by the hurricane and they will need lots of help to rebuild. A family-owned shop was destroyed, nearly all of the homes have at least a part of their roof missing, and they primarily live off the land, but their vegetation and livestock have been wiped out. The Top Hill community is made up of so many family members, we know they are taking care of each other and will rebuild together. They just need some funds to be able to get started. We have had countless friends reach out to check in on our family, so we decided to make this as a streamlined way to help if you feel so inclined. This will help family members sustain themselves as they deal with the day to day of the aftermath- loss of business, loss of resources, and no electricity for an indefinite amount of time. It will also allow them to get what they need to be able to rebuild structures that were damaged. Jamaica is not a country supported by GoFundMe, so all funds raised will be sent to us and wired directly to the family members in Top Hill to be disbursed as needed.
