Restore their Honor: Help replace Veterans Grave Flags

Donation protected
War Memorial Post 30, American Legion in Camden, Maine suffered the indignity of persons removing Veterans grave markers and American Flags from the graves of Veterans on the weekend of July 12th. They also stole the large American Flag which flew over the entire cemetery. A check of the cemetery found the items in the attached photos on the ground around the cemetery. Only 58 flags and 13 markers were recovered laying on the ground. Unfortunately, a more in-depth inventory found that every flag and holder in several sections were completely missing. The total as of today that are missing is 225 flags and Veteran markers.

The markers removed date back to the 1700s right through the present day, and a number of them were the older type metal and bronze markers which may be too costly to replace at approximately $100 each.

Overall, the Camden Legion places 567 flags on Veterans' graves at Mt. View Cemetery before Memorial Day every year, and they remain until after Veterans Day when they are removed and disposed of properly. Placing the flags on a Veteran's grave ensures they are remembered for their service and sacrifices to our country.

Each flag and marker set costs approximately $15 to $20. The markers in this estimate are the plastic Veteran type with an aluminum rod.

Please donate to this so our Veterans may continue to receive the remembrance they so rightly deserve. If you wish donations may be sent to the Post at; Camden Legion, PO Box 187, Camden, ME 04843
