Restore the Statue of St. Volodymyr

Tax deductible
In the summer of 2019, vandals attacked the Blessed statue of St. Volodymyr cutting off pieces, including his head, to sell for scrap. Thankfully, his head was recovered but the staff pieces and cross are still missing. We have managed to find a company in Winnipeg that will work with us for the restoration (with the assistance from select employees at the Winnipeg Art Gallery). They will reattach his head and recreate the staff and cross from pictures.

There is no insurance to cover the cost of the repair. Due to its placement in the "parking lot", it was considered outside of the insurable Cathedral property area and had not been included in the insurance.

This is a very important work of art for a few reasons:

·         St. Volodymyr was pivotal in bringing Christianity to Ukraine in the late 10th century.

·         This is a statue created by Leo Mol

·         Saint John Paul II personally blessed this statue during his visit in the 80’s before it was installed.

We are relying you your kind and generous support to help us restore this important monument. The restoration company has been very generous in their working with us at a very fair price but the amount is still significant. There is also insurance and re-mounting.

Thank you for your support.
