For nearly 40 years, the Happy Family of Palmyra has stood as a beacon of encouragement and joy for truck drivers and locals alike. Created by Ralph Oberdorf, this beloved roadside display was meant to bring a smile to those passing by, especially lonely truck drivers on long journeys. Over the years, the Happy Family became a cherished landmark, woven into the fabric of our community and a symbol of kindness and connection.

Recently, tragedy struck when the Happy Family was vandalized and completely destroyed. The loss has been deeply felt by everyone who has ever waved at them or found comfort in their presence. Our community has come together, expressing a heartfelt desire to rebuild and restore this special tribute so it can continue to inspire and uplift for years to come.

We are raising funds to replace the Happy Family with new, weather-resistant outdoor mannequins that are flexible enough to lift an arm and wave, just like before. We’ll also need to construct new support beams to ensure the display can withstand the elements and remain a safe, welcoming sight for all. Any funds raised beyond what’s needed for the rebuild will be donated to a local shelter for the homeless, extending the spirit of kindness even further.
