I am G. Lysa Ausmus. I am starting this GoFundMe page for my dear friend Jerry King. I have known him for over 20 years, first as a student, then as an employee, as an audio instructor, as a media director at my church, and now as my prayer partner. I will be forever grateful that 16 years ago, he introduced me to my wife, to whom I have been married for 10 years. He is my other soulmate. If I was a wealthy woman, I would not be asking for help for Jerry; I would take care of it myself, but after retirement, I live on a fixed income.

Support My Cochlear Implant Surgery

Hello, friends and community,

Since May 10th of this year, my life has been profoundly impacted by the sudden and complete loss of hearing in my right ear. I am grateful to the friends and family who have been there through this journey—helping me by driving me, doing chores, translating, managing my workload, and motivating me to keep going when I was ready to throw in the towel. Your support has kept me going, and I could not have come this far without you.

Adjusting to single-sided hearing has brought unique challenges—simple conversations, work tasks, and even the joy of music have become harder to navigate. This experience has tested my resilience, and while I've learned to adapt, I’m reaching out now because I believe there is hope in restoring some of what’s been lost.

A cochlear implant could bring back much of the sound that has faded from my world, and there is an 80% chance it could alleviate the constant 'waterfall' of tinnitus that fills my ear every hour of the day. However, this surgery isn’t fully covered by insurance, leaving a financial gap that I need help bridging.

With my birthday and Christmas just around the corner, any donation, large or small, would mean the world to me—an early gift that could restore some of my hearing, help me reconnect with others more easily, and allow me to live a life full of sound once more.
