Hi, my name is Parris and on August 9, 2025, a flash flood warning was issued. I placed my mom, who suffers from dementia, to bed; fed my cat, and watched TV before falling asleep myself with the sounds of heavy rain in the background - following my usual nightly routine. Didn't think much of it, flash floods are a usual occurance but no major concern.
Around 2 am, I was awakened by loud rumbling and shaking noises, and witnessed the high waters along my street and at the top of my basement stairs. The waters receded, I checked around my property and saw two of my foundation walls caved in and by 11 pm, I was told by the fire department and my better judgment, me, my mom, and my 3-footed cat became effectively homeless, while only 3 years into a mortgage.
I lost everything in a matter of a few hours and while I don't feel I'm unique in this, it's a steep hill to climb nonetheless. If it was just me, I could grit my teeth and work it out and suffer, but it's me and someone who is bedridden, and her comforts are my chief concern.
I'm asking for assistance with $50,000 just to repair the foundation, if that's even reasonable or possible. Right now I don't know what recovery looks like or if it's possible, and I hate to seek assistance at all, but especially during the hard times were in, not knowing if the assistance given will even measure up to what's needed, but I am greatful for whatever can be provided.
