Restore Sandos and Smash: Community's Call

Donation protected
Hey all, as many of you have watched on the news, heard on the radio, or seen on social media- Sandos and Smash, a beloved local burger and sandwich cart in Tumalo, Oregon burned down in the early hours of May 12th. The likely cause is believed to be an electrical issue from one of their lowboy coolers. Everything was destroyed or burned in the wreckage; equipment, supplies, their custom-built set up, and the hard work that was fiercely dedicated to making their dream a reality.

Before getting to the main topic here, I’d like to talk about the three men who have dedicated so much to this cart. Andrew Vijarro is a beloved and very well known food truck owner throughout Bend, Tumalo, and surrounding areas. A determined, hard working family man- always finding ways to help his community and friends; Andrew is someone you know you can turn to for business advice, a great laugh, or a good chat over a beer watching the Ducks.

Scott Rush is another owner of Sandos and Smash, Rush’s Squares, and Pine Marten Pizza. Scott will always greet you with a smile and quick joke. Having been in the food industry for over 15 years, Scott knows the ins and outs of what helps a food cart thrive on the lot. Dedicated to his craft and helping his team in every way he can, you can always expect to see Scott with a shrug saying, “We’ll move forward better than before.”

Jake Mizee is the newest owner of Sandos and Smash. Proud manager of Pine Marten Pizza for three years– that time built a friendship with Andrew and Scott and began the dream of starting Sandos and Smash. Driven, smart, and always brimming with new food ideas; Jake brought the final piece to the team they have continued to build and thrive on.

Sandos and Smash may be one of the newest carts in town, but its legacy is already built by its cartmates, excellent food, amazing team, and incredibly determined owners. It is the hope that our incredible community, friends, food lovers, and supporters will answer the call for help. Your donation—no matter how small—will go directly toward rebuilding Sandos and Smash, so they can get back to doing what they love: serving great food and bringing people together.

The estimated damages total over $70,000, and while they have liability and minor equipment insurance, it will only cover a small portion of the damage.. We are heartbroken, but we’re not giving up.

Funds will be used to:
• Replace the cart
• Replace all lost cooking and prep equipment
• Restock supplies and ingredients
• Cover startup costs like permits, licenses, and insurance

This community has always done an incredible job of coming together and supporting those in need. Let’s try and ease their burden if we can, I know they will appreciate the love and support from everyone.
