Restore Safety for Maya and OHGS Staff
Donation protected
As most of you already know, the Owls Head General Store was robbed on Saturday night /early Sunday morning October 6th. The culprit(s) broke into the building, stole about $1000 cash from a register and a bag of cash tips from the office. The cash tips cannot be tracked and the insurance company has advised that filing a claim for the theft would raise the store’s rates going forward, so the store will lose out either way. The theft of $1000 from a small business is a big hit, but losing the sense of safety Maya and her staff enjoyed is the real loss here.
As Maya's best friend, I've seen her and the OHGS staff over the last 4 years resurrect a piece of town history, serve the community tirelessly and create a culture of kindness and hard work in the center of town. Maya has faced so many challenges in getting this business off the ground and she has done it all with a smile and a “can-do” attitude.
Most of you also know that Maya is just back from a short maternity leave and that she is readjusting to life as a new mom while keeping OHGS running smoothly. She has a lot on her plate and could use our help!
In order for the OHGS staff to feel safe again and to be able to run with a small crew in the off-season, the store needs an updated security system. This would include good cameras, a new computer and monitors, installation of motion-activated flood lighting outdoors and a retail safe that can hold cash drawers. Like all of us, Maya never imagined she’d need to worry about security in Owls Head, and so this was not an expense that she had planned for.
I have seen how supportive the Owls Head community has been of Maya for the past four years. After this break-in, so many people have asked her how she is doing and how they can help. This is how we can help. We can restore the sense of safety and security to this iconic store that is the center of Owls Head. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.
