Hello everyone, my name is Zahra and I am from Brooklyn, New York. I am reaching out with a heavy heart to ask for your support in helping a dear friend of mine, Abdullah Abu Mohsen, and his family in Gaza.
Abdullah’s life has been upended by the recent destruction of his home, leaving him and his loved ones without shelter and struggling to meet their most basic needs. Currently, Abdullah and his family are living in a tent, enduring the unforgiving Palestinian winters with little more than hope to sustain them.
Before then, I was in regular contact with him as a beloved pen pal. A family man trying to survive the occupation and supporting his loved ones, Abdullah’s life was completely devastated when the violence in Palestine escalated into full-scale genocide.
Abdullah’s resilience and strength are truly inspiring. Despite his own hardships, he has dedicated himself to documenting the horrors around him, serving as a voice for his people and an advocate for peace and liberation. Over the past year and a half, his work has shed light on the devastating realities faced by so many in Gaza. You can see his incredible documentation on Instagram: @a_b_b_o_u_d_1997.
In his own words, Abdullah shares the heartbreak of his family’s situation: “My mom cries every minute because we no longer have a home.” After asking if he had received any aid since the recent ceasefire, he told me, “We only received one food basket and some flour, but for a long time we have yet to receive anything.”
Due to the constant threat of the occupation and lack of aid flowing through Gaza, Abdullah with few options to rebuild his life. He says simply, “I just want to rebuild our destroyed house and provide for my family’s basic needs.”
I am starting this GoFundMe campaign to give Abdullah and his family a chance to rebuild their home and reclaim some semblance of normalcy. The funds raised will go directly to Abdullah in providing him construction materials and essential supplies for his family. Together, we can give them with the support they need to survive and rebuild a safe space.
Thank you!
