Help! Repair My Family's Home and Community Roads During and After Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

My name is Steve Ferguson, and I’m raising funds to help my mother and her neighbors rebuild after Hurricane Melissa tore through our community in Jamaica.

I currently live in Norwalk, CT and my mother's property that has been in our family for over 100 years is in critical condition. The funds will be 100% used to repair and support the road connecting to our small town.

Before the hurricane’s eye made full landfall, it caused heartbreaking destruction. Two local residents lost their lives, with several homes being completely lost—my mother’s newly built retirement home is suffering serious damage. Roofs were ripped off, farmlands flooded, and animals displaced.

The two main access roads—Joe Hut Road and Litchfield Road—were almost completely destroyed, leaving families stranded and unable to receive food, medical care, or building supplies. We need to have these vital roads cleared and repaired.

My mother, Muncia Ferguson's home, is taking heavy damage, and several neighbors are now sheltering there after losing their roofs. Farmland that once sustained local families has been washed out. We can't wait for 30-45 days for Red Cross or Save the Children to start their various assessments. Immediate support needs to be directed there. I will be traveling to Jamaica as soon as the airport is open for commercial flights. Photos and videos of repairs will follow on this page.

We’re asking for your help to:

1. Repair my mother’s roof and restore her home $20,000
2. Clear and stabilize Joe Hut and Litchfield roads $25,000
3. Provide shelter and food for displaced animals $15,000
4. Help the 15 farmers on my mom's road replant and recover crops $25,000
5. Assist neighbors who lost parts of their homes $25,000

Every donation—no matter how small—will directly help this community rebuild one step at a time. Funds will go toward road materials, truck rentals, small road equipment, local labor, and emergency supplies.

I've spent the better part of 24 years in volunteer work for the following non-profit organizations: STAR Lighting the Way, Inc., Side by Side Charter School, Human Services Council, Inc., Norwalk, CT Planning and Zoning, and the City of Norwalk Fire Department.

I'm looking for the circles that I've supported in the past to give a helping hand to the local residents in my remote community in Jamaica. "It takes a greater village to help a smaller unknown one"

Let's make a difference!
