✝️ Our story and Journey So Far
For generations, our Greek Orthodox Community of St Andrew has been a place of worship, friendship, and belonging for Orthodox Christians in the Windsor and Egham area.
Our journey began over 30 years ago, when a small group of Greek and Cypriot families, newly settled in the UK came together with one dream: to build a spiritual home where they could keep their Orthodox faith and culture alive for themselves and their children.
At that time, there was no Greek Orthodox church nearby. Services were held in borrowed halls and visiting venues, with a priest travelling from London to serve the community. Our founders lovingly carried the icons and sacred items in a suitcase each time setting up a temporary church wherever they gathered.
Through faith and persistence, they approached the local council and were granted the use of St Andrew’s Church in Egham, which became the heart of our community and remains our home to this day. When we first received it, the building was little more than four bare walls. Through years of hard work, fundraising, and love, it was transformed into a beautiful church a true home of worship.
Our Growth and Our Blessing
For many years, St Andrew’s operated with shared clergy and services twice a month. But with God’s grace and the commitment of our parishioners, our community has flourished.
Today, we are blessed to have a permanent priest and hold regular services every Sunday, many Saturdays, and on all major feast days.
St Andrew’s has become a true hub for the Greek Orthodox and wider Orthodox community in the area, a place where families gather to worship, celebrate, and support one another.
However, the current church can only seat around 35 people, meaning that many of our parishioners must stand inside or outside during services. This growing congregation is both a joy and a challenge above all a sign that our mission must continue.
That is why, with faith and determination, we have now secured a new church in Egham, a blessing that allows us to grow and ensure a spiritual home for generations to come.
Why We Need Your Help
The new church is a wonderful opportunity, but it is also in urgent need of essential repairs and restoration before we can move in and begin services.
We are now raising funds for:
• Securing the church building by replacing windows and doors.
• Heating, lighting, and accessibility upgrades
• Electrical safety and compliance works
• Painting, icon restoration, and creation of iconostasi.
• Community hall and kitchen improvements for parish gatherings and youth events
Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us open the doors of this new church and continue our mission of faith, community, and service.
Leaving a Legacy for Our Children
This project is about much more than bricks and mortar. It is about faith, identity, and continuity ensuring that our children and future generations have a place where they can worship, learn, and feel connected to their heritage.
We want to leave them a living legacy, a home where Orthodoxy can flourish and love can be shared among all.
Your generosity today will help ensure that our Greek Orthodox Community continues to be a beacon of faith, unity, and hope for many years to come.
