On Sunday, May 18, Back in the Day Resale Emporium in Kinmundy, IL, suffered a major setback when our large, historic plate glass window was shattered by an act of vandalism. As the owner of the building, I have worked alongside dedicated volunteers to keep this shop running for the past four years. Our shop is more than just a place to find unique treasures—it's a community hub, and all proceeds go to Madison Street Historic Preservation, the nonprofit working to restore our historic downtown.
Since the incident, we’ve had to cover the entire front window with a tarp, losing our signage, hours, and the welcoming window display that shows we’re open for business. We’ve improvised with temporary signs, but the loss has been felt deeply—not just by us, but by the whole Madison Street community. The breakage of a 120-year-old window has been a blow to our momentum in revitalizing the area and supporting new businesses in town.
Despite this challenge, the outpouring of support from our volunteers, shoppers, and neighboring businesses has been incredible. We’re scheduled to have the new glass installed later in July, and with your help, we can restore our storefront and continue bringing life and vitality to Madison Street. Every contribution will help us recover and keep our mission alive. Thank you for standing with us and supporting the heart of our community.
