Subject: Help Our Classroom Zoo Thrive Again
Dear folks,
My name is Andrea, and I’m a middle school science teacher at an inner-city school in New Hampshire! As a biology/Life Science teacher, I have a small "zoo" in my classroom. The animals play a vital role in the education and well-being of my students. They provide children who may not have pets at home the chance to learn proper care and experience partial ownership of exotic pets.
One of our most popular pets has been the endangered axolotls! With the rise in popularity of aquarium hobbies, especially due to Minecraft, axolotls have become more common in pet stores and homes. However, these exotic pets require specific care, and unfortunately, many people and stores do not ensure their needs are met. This is where my classroom comes in. By caring for axolotls in my classroom, many students learn what is needed for their care before bringing one into their home.
Unfortunately, this winter brought harsh temperatures and wild winds, during winter break, we lost power in my building. While the cooler temperatures were fine for the axolotls, when the heat came back on, the water in their tank became too warm, leading to the tragic loss of my three beloved pets. Their loss was deeply felt by our entire school community.
I have been working with Liberty Land Axolotl Rescue, which specializes in educating, rehabilitating, and adopting axolotls. I have two lovely ladies ready to join our community, but as an inner-city teacher, I lack the funds to purchase a necessary chiller for their tank. I humbly ask for help from our community and fellow animal lovers. If 55 people can contribute $10 each, we can reach our goal of $550.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best regards,
Andrea
