Restore Oldtown Handball Alley

Oldtown Handball Alley was the first ever 40x20 handball alley in Ireland. It was built in 1968 by the people of the community. Attached is the link to RTE Archives which will give an insight into the build and the significance for our community and neighbouring communities.
In recent years the alley has fallen into some disrepair and works are required to bring it back into use. We wish to return it to a high playing standard to future proof it for the younger generations to come.

The works that will be carried out is,
1) Roof works and guttering
2) External and internal painting
3) New external fire escape with footpath
4) Internal plaster works to alley and viewing gallery
5) Fire protection, Fire Alarm, Emergency lighting, fire extinguishers
6) Sanding and varnishing of alley floor
7) Upgrades to changing room facilities

The Handball world championships are coming to Ireland this year and Oldtown Handball Alley has been mentioned as a place to host some part of the games, along with the 100-year centenary this year Oldtown Handball Alley will be a big focus.
With Handball’s resurgence as a popular sport once again and sadly with many alleys around the country now being repurposed for other uses, this is a perfect opportunity to invest in the future of Oldtown Handball Alley. The wider community and local schools are also looking to get involved in the game.
We hope you will support the refurbishment of Oldtown Handball Alley
