My Dad's guitar needs help!
I'm Rob, a music teacher in Henderson, NV. In 1979, long before my birth, my father purchased a Gibson Les Paul Custom Black Beauty from Marguerite's Music in Minnesota. This is the first guitar I can remember loving or even holding. I spent 30 years of my life learning on this beautiful instrument.
Lucky guitar players may understand: this guitar was magical. It simply made you a better musician by shaking your hand. It perfectly responded to every subtlety without being touchy or difficult. It felt simply perfect. The definition of what a guitar should be.
Today, the guitar's frets are hurting. Not all of the notes play, and the buzzing takes away the joy and MAGIC that I remember so fondly. This requires a fret job. Any surgery for a beloved instrument is stressful, and I want to find the best in the business to take care of my baby.
I'm hoping this GoFundMe will reach generous people who want to support music education in Henderson and Las Vegas.
Also, I am just trying to keep my Dad's guitar alive. It is a memento of the countless gifts, sacrifices, and encouragements my father has made to allow me to study music and make it my life's passion. It is heartbreaking to have such a beautiful instrument in its case, rather than out on a stand, ready to make music.
Because I don't want to have this experience again, I want stainless steel frets, which cost a little more to work with. Also, I don't know who the best person to do this job is, or whether I will need to ship the guitar to get it re-fretted, so I have chosen a goal of $700 to be safe.
If you know the right luthier to do this job, let me know!
Please help me restore this magical beast to its former glory and allow it to make music for many years to come!
