Restore Michael's Lost Livelihood

A beloved local fisherman from Oʻahu, Michael Bishop, is in urgent need of help after a terrifying ordeal at sea. Michael left for Molokaʻi on Sunday, June 22nd to fish — something he’s done countless times to support himself and his family. But early Tuesday morning, June 24th, everything changed.

In the early hours of the morning, Michael awoke to find his boat sinking off the coast of ʻĪlio Point, Molokaʻi. With no time to spare, he threw all his life jackets overboard, tied himself to them, and floated alone in the open ocean for nearly five hours — fighting for his life.

At 5:40 AM, the U.S. Coast Guard received two Mayday calls and launched an immediate search effort. It wasn’t until 9:37 AM that a second Coast Guard helicopter spotted him approximately two miles offshore, clinging to a bait box. A rescue swimmer was deployed and hoisted him to safety, ending a terrifying chapter of survival.

While we are incredibly grateful Michael is alive, he lost everything — his boat, his gear, and his primary means of income. Michael’s boat wasn’t just for fishing — it was how he supported his ʻohana and contributed to his community.

We’re raising funds to help Michael recover from this traumatic experience and rebuild what he’s lost. Donations will go toward replacing:
