Hello Friends and Colleagues,
Over the holidays I was visiting a close friend in Louisville, Kentucky. When I came out on the morning of January 3rd to load up my car to head back to St. Louis, I saw that the car was not there. The car was gone, and with it my entire sound system that I use as a musician, which was carefully arranged in the trunk of the car. Nothing was visible in the car except a lot of CDs, regrettably most of my very favorite ones that I was listening to on the road. My out of town plates clearly drew the thieves' attention, not my box of CDs. After consulting with my insurance company, I learned that I did not have comprehensive insurance, so, I was dealing with a total loss. My income as a driver was now threatened, and I was suddenly unable to book musical performances for 2025 thanks to the loss of my entire sound system: a streamlined Passport P.A. system, a box of microphones and cords, and several different stands. Completely devastating. I have been in a state of numb disbelief since this crime occurred.
I've known more than a handful of musicians who have been robbed of their equipment, including rare guitars and other instruments. But until the dawn of this year, I'd been lucky. Now I have no car and no system for performing my music at public venues.
Sincerely yours,
Kevin Renick (Composer of the song "Up in the Air" from the Jason Reitman film and lead singer of Neil Young tribute band Shakey Deal)
We, Michael Hagmeier and Heather Stout, have created this GoFundMe effort to raise money to support Kevin. Specifically, we hope to help Kevin purchase a reliable used car for both his day-to-day work which involves driving and delivery, as well as going to music gigs, replacing his Passport P.A. sound system, microphones and mic stands, as well as cords. Many of us have personal music collections, the loss of which can be hard to quantify; we’d like to help Kevin replace his lost cds, to the extent possible. We are hoping that together, all of us who are in Kevin’s sphere of friends, can help collectively raise funds for him. Let’s help Kevin get back to his day-to-day job and performing music gigs, as many of us have enjoyed attending or performing in. Our collective impact can really make a difference. Thank you in advance for your contributions to help Kevin.
