Restore Joy to Sandcastle's Playground

Sandcastle Preschool was established in 1985 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit preschool program and currently serves students ages 2.5-5 years old. We rent building space from Grace Lutheran Church. Being a non-profit organization, Sandcastle Preschool's income is solely based on the tuition of our students. For the past 40 years, we have helped develop the outdoor play area financially by applying for grants, receiving donations, and through fundraising opportunities.

The playground has needed to be renovated for years due to aging concrete, slope of the grounds, and other general maintenance issues. We have long dreamed of creating an outdoor play environment for students to practice curiosity, wonder, and connecting with the world through gardening, better sand/water tables, building with natural objects, and having a reliable bike path to navigate. Additionally, we would love to be able to take classroom learning outdoors by having spaces where we can comfortably sit students for story times, art projects, and dramatic play.

Due to necessary measures to mitigate a building leak in the basement of the church, the existing playground had to be uprooted to access the side of the building. This has allowed us to consider a full playground renovation - one that would help achieve our ultimate vision for the space. Grace Lutheran Church was able to secure funds for the main building repairs (building waterproofing, leak repair, and about 2/3 of the concrete installation). Sandcastle Preschool will be managing the remainder of the playground renovation:
