My sister Jodi is the best. I couldn't ask for a better sister and best friend. So when she came to me to share about what she's been through recently, I felt so deeply for her. No one should have to go through this, especially not my Jodi.
Jodi was recently diagnosed with diabetes, which alone is a lot to take in. On top of that, she is losing her teeth. She has the diabetes under control now with significant lifestyle changes and medication, but she needs help with the teeth part.
We've all had that dream where all your teeth fall out and wake up with that uneasy feeling of what it would be like to not have teeth. Now imagine not being able to wake up -- because that's your reality. Your newly discovered illness has caused your teeth to fall out, and there's nothing you can do about it because diabetes inhibits healing and speeds up the process of your teeth falling out. The best you can hope for is to remove all your teeth and get implants. But they cost $50,000, dental insurance doesn't cover it, and somehow our society has deemed teeth and eyes not worthy of the same medical coverage as the rest of our bodies.
This is Jodi's stark new reality: a diabetes diagnosis AND a hefty price tag to help her feel like herself again.
Everyone who knows Jodi immediately thinks of her vibrant personality, her generosity, her kindness, and her contagious giggle and smile. Help her get her life and her smile back by donating as much as you can.
With gratitude,
Sarah
