Katie and Amy are raising money for Megan and Joey. Katie and Megan have been best friends and co-workers for a decade and they have recently been devastated by hurricane Milton.
Joey was born with Spina Bifida. He has had multiple surgeries. He has many appointments that he must attend for his health, including physical therapy. Megan, his wife has had epilepsy her whole life. She had a major seizure back in 1991 that had a major impact on her health. She also has scoliosis and is a breast cancer survivor. She also has many appointments. They have been married for 10 years now and have gone through everything together. Joey worked at Publix for 12 years before he had to retire due to his health. Megan left Publix after 8 years to care for Joey. They are now on full Disability.
Hurricane Milton ripped through Florida on October 9th, 2024. Megan and Joey were sleeping in their bed in their apartment when Megan started hearing weird sounds. She stepped out of bed to find she was in ankle deep water that was slowly rising. They called a rescue number and had to be rescued from their apartment. Their apartment was not in a flood zone. As a result of the flooding, their van was flooded and was a total loss. The money raised will go towards the purchase of a new vehicle.
Joey was raised to be independent. He feels isolated without his vehicle. Megan and Joey are now forced to rely on their parents for everything. Meagan and Joey are safe living with Megans parents. They are content with where they are. They are relying on their parents to get them to all their appointments, which is a lot for their parents because they have their own stuff going on.
Joey’s dad passed away two years ago. His mom often goes to Georgia to visit her family. She is very independent. Megan’s Dad is going through Cancer and has a lot of appointments himself.
Their parents have a lot of appointments and things going on that make it difficult for Megan and Joey to constantly rely on their Parents. They need their own mode of transportation. Megan cannot drive due to epilepsy. Due to the Spina Bifida, Joey requires hand controls. He requires a modified vehicle so he can drive. Please help us raise the money to help them regain their independence and get to their appointments without putting pressure on their parents. Joey can get in and out of the vehicle only with Megan’s assistance. They go to their appointments together.
Thank you for taking the time to read about this special couple. We appreciate whatever you can donate, and please feel free to share this link.
