Hello Everyone,
We are humbly asking for your support in raising funds for a wheelchair accessible van for my father, former Long Beach Police Officer, Abel Dominguez Jr. Please read our story below. Thank you.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On August 6th, 1993, my father, Abel Dominguez Jr, while on duty as a Long Beach Police Officer, was ambushed and shot multiple times, including once in the head, while at a traffic stop. These few moments changed the trajectory of our family's life forever. Doctors were not hopeful that he would pull through, but against all odds, my father lived. However, this attack left my father permanently disabled. Over the years, with the help of physical therapy, my father was able to work, walk, take us kids out to the movies on the bus, travel, and more. However, as he has aged, these tasks have become more difficult.
About two years ago, my father noticed that his ability to walk became increasingly difficult. He was falling a lot more and could not do the tasks that he was once able to do. Because of this, my family, including my older brother Abel, his fiancée Mindy, myself, and my wife Olivia, made the decision to move my parents from Murrieta back to LA County and purchase a home where we can all live together and help my mom care for him. My dad's loss of abilities has been rapid but we are doing the best we can to keep up and make sure he has what he needs. About a year ago, my father lost his remaining ability to walk. He is now fully wheelchair-bound. With this sudden change in his abilities comes new challenges, such as getting in the car, going to doctor's appointments, and having the independence he once had.
My family is not one to ask for help. Over the past 31 years we have been resourceful and have been able to get my father what he needs. However, we are now ready to reach out to our community and ask for help. We humbly ask for your support in helping us raise funds so we can purchase my father a wheelchair accessible van. We are not looking for something with the "bells and whistles," but something that is reliable and will allow my father to gain a little bit of independence and feel safe in the vehicle.
We want to thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
