Hello, we are a family of 2 with 4 kids that live with the other parents. Our names are Nick (35M) and Christy Furr (35F). Christy has been battling Juvenile Granulosa cell tumor ovarian cancer since September 2022. She has had 3 surgeries to remove the tumors and has undergone various different chemotherapy and immunotherapies. She had her first surgery in September of 2022 where they removed the cancerous tumors they found and she had a total hysterectomy. They also had to drain 8.5L of fluid caused by the cancer and removed 4 tumors, the largest being 15cm. In October 2023, she had a surgery to remove some tumors, but there were too many small nodules of cancer to remove surgically, so she underwent more treatment to control and decrease the spread. This October (2024), she had the 3rd surgery, a 7-hour surgery, and at the end of the surgery, they said there was no visible cancer. They removed 9.6L of fluid, tumors ranging from 5.1 to 10cm, along with her spleen, appendix, and omentum. A couple of months later (March), her cancer markers started going back up, and after scans, we found out she still had cancer on her cardiophrenic angle lymph node and lower left peritoneal cavity. She started Keytruda and just finished her 3rd treatment, but her markers are indicating no response, so we are discussing another treatment plan.
Our income has been my DoorDashing for the last year to make ends meet. This allowed me to stay flexible to be there for her grueling chemo schedule. Her chemotherapy treatments were 5 days a week, 6-hour long sessions.
Personally, I have been diagnosed with a sciatica nerve issue that I have been struggling with for the last 2 years. I have been through physical therapy and various other treatments and was recently referred to a neurologist and pain clinic. I am simply waiting for the appointment, which wasn’t available until July, to attempt to get relief from the pain. This has hindered the amount of time I can work. Some days I can only DoorDash a few hours because sitting in the car aggravates the nerve, along with walking and getting in and out, as well as carrying groceries up steps. It just feels like I’m fighting myself to walk, like walking upstream in a river, just grocery shopping.
We have been behind on our car payment and rent for the better part of a year. We are currently behind $2500 on our car and $1500 for rent. Our landlord has been awesome and has worked with us for over a year now, but we are slowly getting further behind. She has gotten approved for disability, but as you know, it takes time for back payments, and she still has appointments in June that determine what all she gets monthly and for back payment.
Yesterday, our only car, the one I use for DoorDashing, was repossessed. We just made a payment last month and haven't got a letter. I knew it was possible, and as soon as we started getting her back payments and the pain clinic helped me be able to work more, we would get caught up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I called the reinstatement team Wednesday (5-7-2025), and they told us that we need $1900 in 15 days to get our vehicle back.
Thanks Again!
