Help Rebuild Siloah, St. Elizabeth After Hurricane Melissa
Bringing light, shelter, and hope back to our community.
Our Story
Our family is from Siloah, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica — a small, close-knit town known for its kindness, hard work, and strength. On October 29th, Hurricane Melissa swept through the island, leaving behind devastation that words can hardly capture.
Three-quarters of many homes in the area are damaged. Roofs have been torn away, solar panels that powered families’ homes were destroyed, and roads are blocked by debris and fallen light poles. There’s no electricity, and with the rains continuing, families are struggling to stay dry and safe.
This is the daily reality for so many people in Siloah right now — including elderly neighbors, children, and families who have lost almost everything.
Our Mission
We now live in the Washington D.C.–Maryland–Virginia (DMV) area, but our hearts remain deeply rooted in Jamaica. Through close friends, relatives, and community networks still on the ground, we are organizing direct relief for affected residents.
The Siloah Relief Fund was created to help families rebuild — one roof and one home at a time.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward:
• Roofing materials (zinc sheets, nails, lumber)
• Solar power equipment to restore light and communication
• Road clearing and cleanup efforts so supplies and emergency help can reach homes
• Essential supplies — food, clean water, diapers, medicine, and bedding
Funds will be managed transparently and used solely for community relief efforts. On the ground, community organizer Tanisha Bent — a respected local activist — will help coordinate distribution with local volunteers, ensuring resources reach families quickly and responsibly.
How You Can Help
Your support will make a direct difference:
• $25 – Food and bottled water for a family
• $50 – A tarp to keep rain out of a damaged home
• $100 – Solar panels or batteries for light and phone charging
• $250 + – Materials to rebuild a section of roofing for one family
No amount is too small — every act of generosity brings comfort and hope back to Siloah.
A Message From Us
Jamaicans are strong, proud, and resilient — but right now, Siloah needs us. We are coming together, both near and far, to lift each other up and rebuild what Hurricane Melissa tried to take away.
If you can’t give financially, please share this fundraiser widely with friends, family, and anyone who loves Jamaica.
Together, we can bring light, safety, and strength back to Siloah.
“Wi likkle but wi tallawah.”
