Most of us know how relentless scammers can be, especially when targeting the elderly. No matter how much we try to educate ourselves and our loved ones, anyone can fall victim to these cruel schemes. Sadly, a few days ago, Wanda became one of those victims.
It began with a pop-up alert on her computer claiming there was a serious security issue. The message urged her to call a number immediately. The scammers convinced Wanda there had been a banking theft investigation and that she needed to withdraw $16,000 to “correct” it. They even sent someone to her home to collect the cash.
When her family learned what had happened, they immediately contacted the authorities. Unfortunately, instead of compassion, Wanda was met with judgment and made to feel foolish, an especially painful reaction for someone already facing the challenges of early-stage dementia. The bank was also notified, but because the money was withdrawn in cash, there was nothing they could do to recover it.
Wanda is retired and had worked tirelessly to save that money over many years. Losing it has been a heartbreaking blow.
We’re asking for your help to ease this burden. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward helping Wanda cover medic assistance and rebuild what she’s lost and remind her that kindness still outweighs cruelty.
Thank you for your compassion and support.
