Restore Hope for Virginia and Kevin's Home
Donation protected
Virginia and Kevin need our help. Rain from Hurricane Beryl hit their home in Vermont, hard. Their access road was destroyed, turning it into a deep, wide canyon. It was the only way off the mountainside. It is at risk of further collapse. The damage is overwhelming. They’re facing an uphill battle to restore their home and lives.
My sister Virginia and her husband Kevin are some of the hardest working and kindest people you’ll ever meet. The immediate cost of clearing the debris and ensuring their property’s safety is one of the ways our family is trying to help. It gets them one step closer to restoring their home and their peace of mind.
The pictures here show their driveway. The canyon is 10+ feet deep, 20-50 feet wide, and runs hundreds of feet long.
Virginia is hiking the steep woods daily to get to work. Both their vehicles, and everything they own, is trapped in the house. Once cold weather comes, things will be all the more difficult.
As they work with the state geologists and local government to explore their options, any help you can provide ensures they stay on their feet amid overwhelming uncertainty.
One thing we are grateful for: they have their lives. This could have been so much worse.
The solution to their situation will likely take an overwhelming amount of resources. For now, we hope to help them with funds to hire specialists who can mitigate immediate risk (civil engineer, tree removal, etc.) and an attorney who can help them navigate their options for a path forward.
