Restore Hope for the Youorski, Estes & Cook Families

Donation protected
My name is Debbie Dickie and I have known this beautiful family for many years. My husband Dan and I live in Tennessee and were spared by the recent devastation near us. We have known this dear family for many years and consider them family. The Youorski, Estes & Cook families have recently been affected by Hurricane Helene and recent flooding.I am asking you for your help with costs to repair flood damage to Lindsey's home which includes clean out, mold removal, new sump pump and exterior grading to divert water away from the home so that Carol "Skert" has a place to live, and to help with getting Maggie's family pay for food and other bills after loss of income from Hurricane Helene.

Carol Youorski, well known in the BMW motorcycle world, was a true adventurer. In past years, she has ridden around the country for thousands of miles on her BMW and helped at BMW rallies by promoting Women Riders and How to Pick Up a Dropped Motorcycle. You may know her as "Skert" as she rode wearing a skirt and could skert around anything in her path. Her daughter Lindsey also rides and spent many miles beside her mom traveling together. Maggie, an artist, lives in Asheville with her family.

The recent flooding from Helene and recent health issues have direly affected this family. Carol "Skert," due to health and age-related issues, is no longer able to ride her beloved bike and had to retire in August from a job she loved. A month later, she was told by her county that she could no longer live in her home of more than 10 years due to code violations. She lived in a vintage Avion trailer in Lindsey's backyard. Lindsey and her family immediately took her in with the intention of moving her into their basement. On Sept 26 & 27th, 2024, over 10" of rain fell from Helene and a stalled front before that, flooding the basement Skert planned on living in.

At the same time, Maggie and her family, who live in Asheville just above the French Broad River in the River Arts District, amid total destruction, were cut off from the family for days. Maggie, her husband, and three kids are still living without running water and were without power and internet for almost two weeks. This has affected their income, their ability to run her internet business, and to care for her family. Living through the destruction of seeing homes, buildings, and animals floating by has been detrimental to their mental health. Her husband's work was in one of the most devastated areas near I-26, and it was destroyed. They are in the process of building a home in another town, but that has had to be put on hold while they deal with the aftermath of Helene. Even so, they know many had it much worse and are helping their community where they can.

I am hoping to raise money for these folks to help get Maggie back on her feet and continue the work on their new home and to help with the costs of repairing Lindsey's basement so Carol "Skert" can live in her own space. This family has always been one of giving, let's help them in return.
