Restore Hope for the Herrera Family

Donation protected
On Saturday we received a request for financial assistance after a family affected by cancer lost their home and everything they own. The request came in from an old co worker of the family. This past Friday there was a 5 alarm fire in the Allerton section of the Bronx, NY. It left a lot of families displaced and with nothing but the clothes on their backs. One of those families was the Herrera family. After receiving the request we asked the family if they were comfortable sharing a little more with us, this is what dad shared:

“Hello, my name is Aloncio Herrera and I’m 43 years old. About 3 years ago around the holidays I was diagnosed with leukemia. My family had to receive the news on these happy holidays. It turned into the worst time of my life. My family didn’t know what to do and how to navigate such terrible news. This unfortunate news caused me to fall into depression while still having to face this nightmare and begin 3 years of hospital stays, treatments, radiation, chemo and multiple surgery. I am no longer able to work and we struggled to keep a roof over my family’s head.

unfortunately life has only gotten worse
when just yesterday, Friday, January 10, 2025 a fire happened above my apartment at 2910 Wallace Ave in the bronx. All due to someone leaving an electric stove on all night for heat to keep themselves warm. We had no idea that it was going to be a level 5 alarm type of fire. We have been in that apartment for 17 years and built a lifetime of memories there. I have worked multiple pizza jobs along tremont avenue and crosby avenue.

we did not get to grab anything as it was the middle of the night and the fire department grabbed us out. i was only able to grab my family and my pets and there was nothing we could do besides watch from the outside our whole life flash before our lives and our belongings and memories go up in flames. I was unable to even grab any medicine for my treatment and now have to pray that my doctor and Insurance will be able to get me what i need asap.

thank you for listening to my story and prayers to everyone affected.”- Aloncio

The Red Cross originally provided them with a hotel room for only 3 days but have extended it for an additional 15 days. After that time expires, Aloncio and his family will have no kind of housing/shelter and essentially will be homeless.

Let’s remind this family that NO ONE fights alone. Let’s try and get them a roof over back over their heads. Most importantly, let’s ensure Aloncio’s can have access to his cancer medication as quickly as possible.

You can help by donating, and also simply by sharing the link to this gofundme.

We will also be setting up an Amazon link to get the family back some every day essentials such as clothes, shoes, blankets, pillows, etc.
