My name is Chinell White, and I am the oldest of nine children. I’m reaching out today with a broken heart and a desperate plea for help on behalf of my beloved sister, Tanika Rashida Magras — a sweet, selfless, and compassionate soul who is now fighting for her life under heartbreaking circumstances.

Tanika is 41 years old, the third child in our big, close-knit family. She has always been the gentle one — the one who checks in on everyone, the one who gives without expecting anything in return, the one who carries love in her voice and kindness in her heart. None of us ever imagined that our lives would change so drastically, so suddenly.

On December 3rd, 2024, Tanika went to the hospital with what seemed like a simple stomach pain. My mother, who accompanied her, last saw the staff give Tanika morphine before taking her to the back for tests. Hours later, our entire world collapsed — Tanika had slipped into a coma. The hospital told us she went into cardiac arrest, but they couldn’t explain how or why she was left without oxygen for over 10 minutes while under their care. That moment shattered our family.

What followed has been a painful nightmare. The hospital that failed her then told us to “pull the plug.” But we refused. We saw hope in her eyes. We held her hands, played her favorite music, and prayed daily. For six long months, we stood by her side in that hospital — my mother and stepfather visiting every single day without fail. We refused to give up on her.

Then, on June 6th, we were told we had two options: either remove her from life support or send her to a long-term care facility — one that happened to be in Albany, Georgia, nearly 5 hours away from us. Because her insurance wouldn’t cover extended care in Florida — the very state where this tragedy took place — she was moved out of state, far from everything familiar. We were devastated again.

We visited her there, and what we saw broke us: Tanika was in a tiny room in a small town of 2,000 people, in a place that felt cold, lonely, and neglected. Her room was bare, her light dimmed. We cleaned, decorated, and filled it with love. We celebrated her 41st birthday by her side. She smiled faintly. But we know — without the presence of her family, she cannot truly heal.

Tanika belongs with her family — with her siblings, her nieces and nephews, her mother, and the love that fuels her will to live.

That’s why I am humbly asking for your support.

We are raising funds to bring Tanika home — to hire a private nurse and give her the long-term care she deserves, surrounded by the family that loves her beyond words.
